Job Responsibilities
To serve as Program Director, and teach discipline specific courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination. TEACHING PERFORMANCE - The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process. INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT - The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports. STUDENT ADVISEMENT - The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development. COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES - The participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position. PROGRAM ACCREDITATION AND MAINTENANCE - the ability to work closely with the faculty (full-time and part-time) in the development, revision, and maintenance of a high caliber academic program meeting college, clinical affiliate, and national accrediting agency standards. PROGRAM COORDINATION - Complete tasks required to ensure program/course compliance and success; maintain daily program operations; communicate with faculty, department chair, dean, other College personnel and industry representatives.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher and possess the appropriate credential(s) specific to one or more of the concentrations offered (OBGYN, Vascular Technology, or Abdomen Extended). Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
Additional Comments
Will teach in an academic setting within the SCC college service area and will be required to attend clinical rotations as needed. May teach day, evening, weekend courses, or combination on any of the SCC's campuses; he or she may also teach via distance learning. Occasionally evening and weekend hours are expected for events such as faculty meetings, student activities, or recruitment functions. Travel may be required for academic conferences, professional development, off-site meetings, or representing the institution at external events. Overnight travel is typically infrequent but may occur depending on the department's needs and institutional expectations.
