THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 to provide essential treatment, counseling, and support services to inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Pine Grove. In this role, you will play a vital part in promoting rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and supporting incarcerated individuals as they work toward recovery and successful reentry. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1, your work focuses on supporting counseling and treatment services for inmates who struggle with substance use, while helping develop plans that guide recovery. In this role, you will perform the following duties:

• Treatment Support: Assist with developing treatment plans and providing individual and group counseling
• Record Management: Maintain treatment records and prepare required summaries in accordance with regulations
• Assessment Duties: Conduct assessments to help determine treatment needs under supervisory guidance
• Team Participation: Collaborate with treatment teams and attend required meetings to support coordinated care
• Training Completion: Participate in mandatory training to maintain skills related to counseling and safety

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,436.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or
• One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences; or
• A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work; or
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
