Respiratory Therapist (RT) – Critical Access Hospital | Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive respiratory care to neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as ordered by physicians.
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and respiratory treatments.
- Perform respiratory assessments, pulse oximetry, arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis, and pulmonary diagnostics as appropriate.
- Set up, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy.
- Respond to respiratory emergencies, code blue events, and rapid response situations.
- Assist with airway management, intubation support, and patient transport when needed.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, medications, and disease management.
- Document respiratory assessments, treatments, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to provide safe, evidence-based respiratory care.
- Participate in mandatory departmental quarterly education and competency sessions.
Required Documents / Certifications
- Active Respiratory Therapist License
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) (as required by state/facility)
- BLS Certification
- Acute Care Hospital Respiratory Therapy experience
- Experience caring for patients across multiple age groups
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts , including every other weekend
