Job Title: Scientist III – Molecular Biology Location: Austin, TX Pay Rate: $46–$48 per hour Employment Type: 1-Year Contract Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Work Arrangement: Onsite Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Scientist III – Molecular Biology to support research and development initiatives focused on molecular biology, nucleic acid extraction, and PCR-based detection workflows. This role will focus on developing and optimizing magnetic bead-based DNA and RNA purification methods, direct-to-PCR workflows, and sample preparation technologies. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with magnetic bead-based nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, RT-qPCR, and chemical lysis methods. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative R&D projects designed to improve assay sensitivity, processing speed, and workflow efficiency. Key Responsibilities Design, execute, and analyze experiments supporting magnetic bead-based DNA and RNA extraction workflows. Develop and optimize direct-to-PCR, direct-to-qPCR, and lysis-to-PCR sample preparation methods. Perform qPCR and RT-qPCR assays to evaluate sensitivity, performance, and reproducibility. Develop and evaluate sample preparation methods for complex biological matrices, including plasma, serum, cell culture media, and bodily fluids. Prepare laboratory buffers and reagents using appropriate calculations, pH measurements, and analytical equipment. Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports, summaries, and research documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams supporting assay development, automation, and product development. Troubleshoot experimental challenges and recommend improvements to laboratory workflows. Maintain accurate experimental records and uphold laboratory safety, quality, and data integrity standards. Independently manage experiments and meet project deadlines in a fast‑paced R&D environment. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field. At least 1 year of hands‑on experience with magnetic bead-based DNA and/or RNA extraction. At least 3 months of experience with direct-to-PCR, direct-to-qPCR, or lysis‑only workflows. At least 1 year of working knowledge of qPCR and RT‑qPCR, including assay setup, data analysis, and troubleshooting. At least 6 months of experience handling biological samples and performing chemical lysis methods. Experience planning and executing experiments independently. Ability to prepare buffers and reagents, including molarity calculations and pH measurements. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail and commitment to data quality. Relevant academic and research experience may count toward the required experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience with automated sample preparation platforms, such as KingFisher systems. Previous experience in a research and development or product development laboratory. Familiarity with JMP statistical analysis software. Experience optimizing molecular biology workflows and improving assay performance. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to perform pipetting and routine laboratory procedures. Ability to work safely in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and applicable PPE requirements. Schedule Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Day shift. Onsite laboratory position in Austin, TX. Contract Opportunity This is an initial one-year contract assignment. The position may offer potential conversion to a permanent role based on business needs, available headcount, and performance. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a detail‑oriented molecular biology scientist with hands‑on nucleic acid extraction and PCR experience who can independently execute experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, and collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams to develop and improve molecular sample preparation workflows.
