About the Role

The Director of Operations & Production will oversee day-to-day operations and help drive efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across the business. This person will manage and support multiple departments, including purchasing, shipping, customer service, production planning, inventory, and operational processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong manufacturing operations background, sharp business judgment, and experience managing cross-functional teams in a time-sensitive production environment. This role requires someone who can work closely with production leaders, customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure operational goals are met and company processes run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations across purchasing, shipping, customer service, production planning, inventory, and related operational functions.
• Maintain consistent communication with customers, managers, staff, and vendors to ensure smooth company operations.
• Lead, motivate, and support teams within a fast-paced and demanding manufacturing environment.
• Partner closely with production department managers on scheduling, production execution, technical problem-solving, resource planning, and priorities.
• Develop and oversee production control processes for raw materials and shop floor production.
• Track and respond to changing customer requirements related to pricing, delivery, and production timelines.
• Support quoting activities by providing operational input for new and existing products.
• Develop, implement, and maintain quality management system protocols within operational processes.
• Improve existing processes and procedures to increase internal capacity, productivity, and efficiency.
• Ensure operational activities remain on time and within budget.
• Track staffing needs and support hiring as needed.
• Develop career development plans for direct reports and support team problem resolution.
• Manage data collection and reporting for productivity targets, cost reduction, error reduction, and customer service improvement.
• Work closely with facilities and safety teams to ensure compliance.
• Oversee raw materials and inventory accuracy.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of proven success in an operations management or director-level role.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably related to precision components, metal parts production, aerospace, medical, electronics, or similar industries.
• Strong ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining operational control and accountability.
• Experience managing production planning, customer service, purchasing, shipping, inventory, or related operational teams.
• Knowledge of ERP systems used for production planning, work order processing, and material planning.
• Strong understanding of process improvement, operational metrics, and productivity tracking.
• Experience with human resources practices, employee relations, and employment law.
• Strong conflict management and business negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in operations management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems for small to mid-sized manufacturing businesses.
• Strong IT skills and ability to work with outside managed service providers to support business needs.
• Experience with cost accounting and reporting in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in Redwood City, CA. The role is primarily office-based with regular interaction on the manufacturing shop floor, including collaboration with production staff and occasional machine or part inspection.
