Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Temporary Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant to manage our day-to-day financial operations during a leave of absence. As a small team of approximately 30 employees, we operate a lean, solo-person finance department. This role is ideal for a strong Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Full-Charge Bookkeeper who thrives in independent, self-directed environments, can execute daily transactional cycles, and can maintain financial stability while our primary financial officer is away.

Contract Timeline & Structure
This is a temporary, contract position spanning 4 - 6 months to ensure a seamless transition:

• Phase 1 (Onboarding & Training): Beginning mid-to-late October. You will work side-by-side with the current financial manager to learn company-specific systems, routine processes, vendor networks, and historical contexts.
• Phase 2 (Primary Coverage): Beginning late January through late April (12 Weeks). You will independently manage the day-to-day full-cycle accounting functions while the manager is out on leave.

Key Responsibilities
Because this is a solo department in a small organization, the focus is strictly on keeping the daily operations running smoothly rather than executing long-term strategic projects:

• Full-Cycle Accounts Payable (AP): Review, code, and enter vendor invoices; manage payment runs via electronic transfers, checks, or wires; reconcile vendor statements.
• Accounts Receivable (AR) & Billing: Generate and issue customer invoices accurately; record incoming customer deposits; monitor aging reports and conduct light collection follow-ups as needed.
• Tax Compliance: Prepare and file all monthly and quarterly sales tax returns.
• Payroll & Benefits Administration: Process weekly payroll for approximately 30 employees, including hourly/salaried updates, benefits deductions, and expense reimbursements. Following each payroll cycle, log into the third-party retirement portal to enter/upload weekly retirement data, cross-reference employee contributions, employer matching, loan payments, hours, and salaries against payroll registers, and schedule electronic funding payments.
• Month-End Close Support: Prepare and post standard journal entries; maintain balance sheet reconciliations; compile standard financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) for management review.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 4+ years of hands-on accounting experience (Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Full-Charge Bookkeeper level).
• Small Business Background: Prior experience working in a small company (under 50 employees) managing multiple parts of the accounting cycle independently.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in navigating standard Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or core accounting software, with the ability to quickly adapt to proprietary systems during onboarding.
• Software: Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel) are required. Familiarity with relational database tools (e.g., Access) is preferred, with on-the-job training provided for internal systems.
• Payroll Systems: Familiarity with standard third-party payroll platforms and external benefits portals. Experience navigating payroll registers and conducting data verification is strongly preferred.
• Mindset: Highly organized self-starter who excels at operational execution, possesses strong problem-solving skills, and is comfortable managing financial operations independently.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $30.00 - $33.00 Per Hour
