Maintenance III - District Operations

This is a 8 hour/day, Swing Shift (2:00 pm - 10:30 pm) 12 month position under the Classified Bargaining Unit. The start date is as soon as possible.

Definition

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager receives direction from the Custodial Supervisor performs skilled work as a journeyman craftsman in the maintenance, construction, and repair of district buildings, equipment and grounds, and performs related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class are distinguished from lower level maintenance classifications in that the majority of assignments require the performance of journeyman level skills in one of the trade fields such as plumbing, electrical, or carpentry. Supervision of helpers in lower classifications may be a regular or occasional responsibility.

Examples Of Duties

Does major repair or construction duties in repairing and maintaining all types of boilers and furnaces; maintains and repairs pneumatic, electric or electronic control systems, hot and cold water pumps, gas valves, fans, and air compressors, does steam-fitting, electrical work, and plumbing; does overhauling, calibration, adjustments, and replacement of parts; tests boiler water and recommends chemical additives; estimates necessary materials; costs and submits requisitions; maintains records of preventative maintenance; inspects, repairs, installs, services, and maintains electrical systems including conduit and duct systems, light and power circuits, motor appliances, generators, control equipment, switches, switchboards, fans, heaters, fixtures, boilers, bell and buzzer systems, clocks and fire alarm systems; installs necessary interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances; wires new and altered buildings; replaces fuses; installs, tests, and maintains intercommunication systems; makes cost estimates and orders materials needed; may occasionally do welding and plumbing operations incidental to electrical duties; does rough and finish carpentry work; performs skilled mill and cabinet work involving construction, finishing, and repairing of buildings, structures, furniture, cabinets and equipment; repairs floors and roofs; cuts and installs window panes; operates planers, shapers, jointers, lathes, band saws, and other woodworking machinery; keeps tools and machinery in good condition; makes drawings and sketches of construction and repair projects; keeps records of materials used; cares for and maintains assigned equipment and motor vehicles as required. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the trades to which assigned:
• Applicable codes and regulations; Computer relevant programs;
• Blood borne pathogen training and current in all federal, state and district required trainings.

Ability to:

• Read, write, and follow oral and written instructions with little supervision;
• Perform skilled repair and maintenance work in the trades to which assigned;
• Maintain preventative maintenance records;
• Work effectively without close supervision;
• Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees, and the general public;
• Maintain confidentiality in all phases of work, i.e. records, meetings, parent rights, etc.
• Use and navigate computer technology and other relevant computer software programs as required;
• Routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance;
• Complete all required district trainings.

License:

• Possession of a valid Oregon Operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles;
• Possession of any applicable license in the building trades.

Experience:

• One year of journeyman level experience as a skilled tradesman and completion of a recognized apprenticeship training period.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent as required by Oregon Administrative Rules, Oregon Department of Education.
