Health Information Specialist I
$22.99 per hourPosition Summary The Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk processes health information under the direction of the HIM Director or designated supervisor. Responsibilities include collecting and delivering hard-copy medical records for patient care, processing surgical lists, retrieving records (including picking up discharged patient records from nursing units), and locating and following up on missing files. The clerk is also responsible for prepping, scanning, and filing medical records and loose reports; preparing documents for storage; answering telephones; and assisting physicians and staff with health information requests. As time permits, this role may assist with the preparation of medical records for destruction. Specific Skills Needed Demonstrated knowledge of medical records and medical record documents. Ability to process work using both alphabetical and numerical filing systems. organizational skills with a proven aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow instructions precisely. Ability to remain courteous, tactful, and cooperative throughout the workday. Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy despite frequent interruptions in a high-activity area. Legible handwriting and printing are mandatory. Basic computer and keyboarding skills, with a minimum typing speed of 30 WPM. Education, Experience, and Training Required: Knowledge of Windows Software. Preferred: High School graduate or GED equivalent. Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Knowledge of medical terminology. Previous HIM department or medical office experience. Valid state driver’s license, reliable motor vehicle, motor vehicle insurance, and current registration. salary: $22.99 - $23 per hour

education: High School Responsibilities Confidentiality & Compliance: Safeguards the confidentiality of patients’ protected health information in strict accordance with State and Federal (HIPAA) regulatory requirements and organizational policies. Abides by all compliance requirements and performs responsibilities in an ethical manner.
Safety & Patient Care: Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices. Utilizes approved processes to resolve the biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of patients, with consideration to age.
Record Tracking: Logs out requested charts to ensure locations are accurately tracked at all times.
Record Retrieval & Processing: Retrieves daily discharged patient records and old records from nursing units, ambulatory surgery centers, and the emergency department. Follows up on missing records and processes current inpatient/outpatient records according to established policies. Ensures correct face sheets are attached.
Document Scanning & Prep: Verifies all documents belonging to a record (checking names, medical record numbers, and account numbers). Preps medical records for scanning, prints necessary cover/mounting sheets, identifies documents with poor legibility, and quality-checks scanned reports. Skills
