Phlebotomist

Laboratory PositionIn conjunction with the Star Valley Health mission, vision and values, this key position is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the operations of the Laboratory. The scope of the department is to obtain and evaluate specimens to assist in the diagnosis of patients. This position is at-will.Job DutiesGreet patients and instruct them in the proper specimen collection methodsProfessionally draw blood specimens from patients by using appropriate methodsPossess and practice knowledge of various specimen collecting techniquesSkilled in determining most appropriate site to obtain specimensLabel specimens for identification purposes and enter specimen data into the computerUpdate patient records with test results, distribute reports to clinicians as neededHandle confidential and proprietary information on a daily basisDemonstrate familiarity with sterilization practices and infection controlInventories and requisitions medical laboratory, supplies; stocks work area as neededMaintain a clean and organized work areaAttend classes and training as scheduled and requiredOther assignments as delegatedRequirementsSkills:Aptitude to follow written and oral communicationMaintain a working relationship with other employees within the department and other departmentsStrong multi-tasking skills with the ease of changing direction upon request or as neededSkill to work with patients with respect to their situationExperience & Education:Strong work ethic and attention to detailHigh School Diploma or GED equivalentPhlebotomy certification or other medical trainingAbilities:Maintain a team and positive work environmentAdaptable to work in a team environment or individual basisAbility to lift ten (10) pounds on a regular basisConstant standing, walking, pushing, pulling bending, and reaching throughout the work dayComply with HIPAA and other federal, state and local regulations as well, as maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in patient, visitor and staff mattersNote: Position descriptions are intended to serve as a guideline for typical duties and requirements of a position, but are not inclusive.
