King County Metro's Vehicle Maintenance Division is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to support our diverse Vehicle Maintenance workforce as a career service Technical Information Processing Specialist (TIPSIII).


The TIPS III position plays a vital role in ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for our Vehicle Maintenance crews. This role involves managing a range of administrative and data functions-including entering, verifying, and tracking work order and labor data across multiple software platforms. The incumbent regularly pulls timekeeping reports, monitors hours worked and prepares payroll information using the PeopleSoft system. Success in this position requires a detail-oriented approach, proficiency with data systems, and a clear understanding of how payroll operations interface with maintenance workflows.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to support a transit vehicle maintenance base using their organizational and high-volume data management skills.


Candidates should be skilled in running reports, executing queries, and managing data across multiple databases. They should also be experienced with records management systems and collaborating with diverse groups of internal partners. The ideal candidate enjoys making an impact, is technically proficient, collaborative, service-oriented, and can prioritize tasks effectively using strong time management skills.

Note: This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) career service Transit Vehicle Maintenance Technical Information Processing Specialist III vacancy. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility list for future career service, special duty assignment (SDA) and term limited temporary (TLT) vacancies that may occur in this classification within this workgroup . The eligibility list will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting and may be used at the discretion of the hiring authority. If hired from the eligibility list, applicants must be willing to work at any base location.

Job Duties

Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.

As the TIPSIII, you will:
  • Verify, prepare and process employee payroll entries in the maintenance work order system (M5) and King County's payroll software (PeopleSoft).
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Enter work order data into a PC-based system to track vehicle maintenance history as well as workload and costs for the rebuilding of components. Enter work order information into an asset management system (M5) to monitor vehicle maintenance history, manage workload, and track component rebuilding costs.
  • Determine validity, correctness, and completeness of data entered and collaborate with internal partners to (such as Base Chiefs, Payroll, and Vehicle Maintenance Data Management team) to make corrections as needed.
  • Maintain and prepare files and reports for auditing purposes.
  • Assist in ordering office supplies, receiving materials, and checking them against purchase orders.
  • Coordinate the shipment of oil samples to third party laboratories for analysis.
  • Use detailed computer programs to perform multiple-step tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Answer phones, route calls, and take messages for staff.
  • Maintain logs and file systems to organize and control records and information.
  • Prepare letters, memos, and reports as requested or required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Candidates must demonstrate that they have increasingly responsible clerical experience that includes managing a high volume of data.


Additional minimum qualifications include:
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful working relationships with a diverse group of co-workers, colleagues, and internal/external customers and communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and e-mail/writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn specialized software applications.
  • Skill in running reports, queries, and managing data from various databases.
  • Knowledge of and experience with document filing and records systems.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Time management and prioritization skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, and the ability to accurately manage and process a high volume of data.
  • Have any equivalent combination of experience and education necessary to perform the job duties.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience or skill in managing work order/labor information in a vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer application software like PeopleSoft, SharePoint, or equivalent.
  • Experience with King County and Metro Transit payroll, record keeping, inventory control, and/or auditing processes.
  • Basic knowledge of Oracle Financial system, PeopleSoft (or similar payroll systems), and/orM5FleetFocusSystem (Work order system).
  • Knowledge of Metro Transit policy & procedures.
  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills that reflect King County Metro's commitment to service excellence and an understanding of our True North and Values.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel to work locations throughout King County in a timely manner, when public transportation is limited or unavailable.

Work Locations

Work is performed 100% on-site. The current vacant position we are recruiting for is assigned to North Base (2160 N. 163 rd St. Shoreline, WA 98133). Applicants must be able to work any King County base location.

Work schedule

The work schedule is day shift Monday through Friday, 6:00AM to 2:30PM. Work assignments occasionally involve working on alternate shifts. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime.
