The Role

This is not a job for someone who waits to be told what to do. We're looking for a Director of Procurement and Manufacturing who will own the upstream side of our operational engine: ingredient sourcing, supplier relationships, co-manufacturer management, and the production planning infrastructure that ties it all together.

You'll work with a separate team member managing finished goods fulfillment. Your world is everything upstream of that: making sure the right ingredients are procured at the right cost, on time, with the right suppliers, so that production runs smoothly and the business never gets caught flat-footed.

You'll report directly to the CEO and partner closely with Finance and Marketing to ensure that every commercial opportunity is backed by ingredient availability and production capacity. You'll build systems, not just manage them.

What You'll Own

Ingredient Procurement

• Own all ingredient sourcing end-to-end: supplier identification, negotiation, contracting, and ongoing relationship management
• Develop and maintain a multi-source strategy for critical ingredients so the business is never single-threaded on supply
• Negotiate pricing, MOQs, lead times, and payment terms with suppliers to optimize cost and flexibility as volume scales
• Monitor commodity markets and ingredient cost trends; proactively surface risks and opportunities to Finance and leadership
• Build a supplier scorecard and accountability framework covering quality, on-time delivery, and cost performance

Production Planning & Co-Manufacturer Management

• Translate demand forecasts into ingredient purchase orders and production schedules, coordinating across co-manufacturers to ensure capacity alignment
• Own the co-manufacturer relationship with accountability: production lead times, quality compliance, cost targets, and continuous improvement
• Anticipate production risk before it surfaces and develop contingency plans proactively, not reactively
• Manage new product development timelines in partnership with co-manufacturers, from ingredient qualification through production readiness

Demand Planning & Forecasting

• Own the rolling ingredient forecast, translating commercial inputs from Sales and Marketing into actionable procurement plans
• Build and maintain visibility into ingredient inventory levels, reorder points, and lead time buffers that prevent stockouts without over-investing in raw materials
• Lead S&OP cadence on the procurement side, flagging supply constraints before they become commercial problems

Systems & Cost Management

• Own ingredient and supplier data in Cin7, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and operational integrity
• Partner with Finance on ingredient COGS, landed cost analysis, and margin optimization
• Identify and implement process improvements and technology that create procurement leverage without adding headcount
• Build scalable procurement infrastructure that can support 3-5x volume growth across an expanding SKU portfolio

Cross-Functional Integration

• Translate new product launches and marketing initiatives into procurement requirements early, not at the last minute
• Partner with Finance on budget forecasting, cash flow planning, and working capital implications of ingredient purchases
• Communicate supply constraints clearly and early so Sales and leadership can make informed decisions on commitments

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of procurement and supply chain experience in food or beverage CPG
• Hands-on experience sourcing food ingredients, negotiating supplier contracts, and managing co-manufacturer relationships
• Strong understanding of food ingredient supply chains, commodity pricing dynamics, and quality compliance requirements
• Experience building and managing demand forecasts and production plans in a scaling brand environment
• Proficiency in Cin7 or a comparable inventory and procurement management system
• Strong financial acumen: you understand how procurement decisions affect COGS, working capital, and gross margin
• Track record of building procurement infrastructure in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment
• Experience at a food CPG brand that scaled significantly during your tenure is a strong signal

Nice to Have

• Experience sourcing better-for-you or clean-label ingredients 
• Familiarity with co-manufacturer qualification, onboarding, and quality audit processes
• Background working alongside fractional finance or ops teams in a lean org structure
• Experience supporting a national retail launch requiring rapid ingredient scale-up
