Steel Fitter/Welder - Shop Position, Full Benefits (63026)

Structural Steel Fitter/Welder Position Summary Penn Services is seeking experienced Structural Steel Fitter/Welders to join our fabrication shop. This position is responsible for fitting, assembling, and welding structural and miscellaneous steel components in accordance with fabrication drawings and project requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working independently from shop drawings, laying out and fitting components, and producing quality welds in a fabrication-shop environment. Experience fabricating stairs, handrails, guardrails, and other miscellaneous metals is highly preferred , but not required. Primary Responsibilities Read and interpret structural steel and fabrication/shop drawings. Lay out, fit, tack, and assemble structural and miscellaneous steel components. Verify dimensions, orientation, hole locations, and overall fit prior to welding. Perform FCAW welding using .052-inch wire. Fabricate assemblies such as beams, columns, frames, supports, stairs, handrails, guardrails, and miscellaneous steel. Use common fabrication tools including grinders, saws, torches, squares, levels, tape measures, clamps, and related equipment. Check completed work for dimensional accuracy and weld quality. Perform grinding, cleanup, and preparation of fabricated assemblies as required. Follow established welding procedures, fabrication standards, and shop safety requirements. Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment. Coordinate with supervisors and other shop personnel to maintain production flow and quality. Required Qualifications Ability to read and work from fabrication/shop drawings. Ability to accurately use a tape measure and common layout tools. Working knowledge of steel fabrication and fit-up practices. Experience as a welder. Ability to safely operate common fabrication-shop tools and equipment. Ability to lift, position, and work around structural steel components in a shop environment. Highly Preferred Experience Experience with any of the following is a significant plus: Stair fabrication Handrail and guardrail fabrication Miscellaneous metals Stringers, landings, rails, posts, and related stair components Architectural or exposed miscellaneous steel Structural steel fabrication Candidates with strong stair and handrail fitting experience (steel or wood) should receive particular consideration. Physical / Shop Requirements Candidates must be able to: Work on their feet for extended periods. Bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in typical fabrication positions. Lift and handle steel components and fabrication tools. Work safely around welding equipment, cranes, forklifts, grinders, saws, and other fabrication machinery. Wear required personal protective equipment. Recruiting / Screening Guidance When screening candidates, preference should be given in the following order: Experienced structural or miscellaneous steel fitter/welders with stair and handrail experience. Structural steel fitter/welders with strong blueprint-reading and layout ability. Miscellaneous-metal fabricators with strong fitting and FCAW experience. Experienced welders who also have demonstrated fitting and fabrication experience.
