Special Assistant

Summary This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare, (CM). As a Special Assistant, GS-0301-14, you will serve as a Special Assistant in the Center for Medicare (CM) and carry responsibility for all aspects of priority projects related to planning, development and implementation of program initiatives necessary to shape the Center's approach to health care policy, operations, and financing issues. Responsibilities Serve as ad hoc team leader/participant/project manager for identified strategic projects; consolidates necessary resources and staff throughout CM; and coordinates such initiatives in order to meet project deadlines and manage requests. The incumbent collect and evaluate facts on problem areas involving any one or several of the groups within the Center. Initiate and maintain contacts and working relationships required to plan and execute projects to meet the needs of senior management. Act as the primary strategic representative for Center leadership, evaluating, negotiating, and committing executive resources for requests from the Department, the White House, Congress, CMS leadership, and external stakeholder organizations. In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS -13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: Planning, coordinating, and managing projects on behalf of senior leadership to meet administration goals and deadlines; AND Evaluating procedures, processes, or policies to identify process improvements; AND Preparing written materials, e.g., briefing materials, special reports, or analyses for senior leadership; AND Serving as a liaison between the work unit and other organizational components. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
