Teacher – Family and Consumer Sciences (High School) Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $45,600 to $66,029 Annual Purpose Classroom instruction and training in Family and Consumer Science education. Possible subjects include My Cuisine, Global Cuisine, Interior Design, Fashion Merchandising, Fashion-Fabric-Construction, and Child Development. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Plans and implements a program of study that utilizes district approved curricular documents. Is competent in teaching cooking, sewing, interior design, and child development. Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons and units. Employs a variety of instructional techniques. Uses data-driven decision-making to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interest. Collaborates with administrators, colleagues and parents in a positive and productive manner. Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree; Missouri teacher certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences (K-Grade 12). Preferred: None. ADA Requirements Language: Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance; analyze and implement curriculum and assessment data to plan instruction; complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents; present information effectively and respond to questions; write clear lesson plans. Computation: Apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form; apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students; demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement. Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and adapt instructional methods accordingly; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information using a variety of media; access and present information from online sources to enhance instruction; instruct in environments where students use 1‑to‑1 technology such as laptops, iPads and other devices; lead students in creating and presenting multimedia projects when assignments enhance learning; use district software for recording grades and retrieving student information; readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional equipment; adhere to all district policies and procedures regarding technology use. Physical Demands: Speak and hear in an environment with multiple simultaneous conversations and activities; move around the classroom to interact with and manage students; read handwritten or printed material.
