ASSISTANT ENGINEER

DPW programs cover traffic engineering, land development, design engineering, construction management, land surveying, cartographic services, watershed quality, flood protection, environmental services, solid waste planning, closed landfills, wastewater and water systems management, and permanent road divisions. Assistant Engineers may be assigned to the Transportation Division, Engineering Services Division, or Land Development Division, where they work collaboratively with the county, other agencies, and the community to ensure adequacy of design and conformance with ordinances, laws, and standard engineering practices. Planning & Development Services (PDS) Planning & Development Services strives to balance community, economic, and environmental interests. Assistant Engineers in PDS review grading and improvement plans, technical studies, and construction documents for public and private projects, and collaborate with a team to ensure adequacy of design and conformance with ordinances, laws, and engineering best practices. Hiring Process and Timeline Job Offer and Background Process begins after interviews. Pre‑employment Medical Screening approximately three days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated Start Date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or a mutually agreed upon date. Minimum Qualifications A current state‑issued Engineer‑in‑Training certificate and one year of experience in civil or structural engineering, OR A bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency with coursework approved by ABET, by the time of appointment.
