Job Summary Assistant Engineer is an entry‑level civil engineering position within the County of San Diego’s Department of Public Works (DPW) or Planning & Development Services (PDS). The role supports the county’s mission by designing, reviewing, and coordinating civil engineering projects while contributing to infrastructure maintenance, land development, and public service delivery. Hiring Process and Timeline Job offer and background process begin after interviews; current county employees may be exempt from additional background screening. Pre‑employment medical screening undertaken within approximately 3 days following successful background investigation. Anticipated start date based on completion of medical screening or mutually agreed date.
