Exodontist or Oral Surgeon (Part-time)

Part‑time schedule: 2nd and 4th Friday every month from 8:00 am‑5:00 pm (1 hour lunch).

Role Overview and Purpose

The Oral Surgeon or Exodontist works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing outpatient oral surgery services to patients—treating conditions, defects, and injuries of the mouth, gums, teeth, and jaw. This role will perform more complex tooth extraction procedures, including removing impacted teeth, and may perform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouth. These procedures are based on in‑house dental diagnostic assessments/consults and corresponding treatment plans. In addition, this role will include appropriate follow‑up care, impart health education information (including risks, benefits, alternatives), share relevant techniques with patients, advise patients on post‑surgery dental care, and prescribe suitable pain‑relief medication.

Responsibilities

• Conducts, develops, and/or confirms suitable individualized in‑house oral surgery diagnosis and care plan based on dental conditions
• Review patients’ medical history and discuss their symptoms and concerns
• Utilize dental instruments and appropriate imaging to determine the cause of patients’ pain and discomfort
• Provide appropriate oral surgery services, in compliance with standard of care
• Perform more complex tooth extraction procedures, including removing impacted teeth
• Perform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouth
• Perform ridge preservation techniques (to be determined)
• Administer anesthesia services as appropriate
• Perform dental procedures within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practice
• Observe, assess, and record patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatment progress
• Prescribe medications and provide patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed
• Accept additional patients into the schedule, as feasible
• Accommodate patients with urgent dental needs, including walk‑ins, as feasible
• Create and maintain a professional appearance

Team Support

• Lead dental assistants, hygienists, and other staff to ensure smooth patient care and treatment coordination
• Work with the dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completion
• Provide dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and available
• Provide supervision, consultations, and instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as needed
• Serve as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHC
• Participate in morning huddles

Clinical Administration

• Minimize rescheduling of patients; provide instructions if necessary
• Complete and submit daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services rendered
• Work with management to improve efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenues
• Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements
• Assist management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants or others, as needed
• Participate in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in‑servicing trainings as available and appropriate
• Contribute to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activities
• Complete legible and legally defensible dental records

Education/Experience

• Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited school – required
• Certificate from an accredited post‑doctoral US Oral Surgery Residency Program – required for oral surgeons
• Proven experience working as an Oral Surgeon or Exodontist – preferred minimum 2 years of experience as a dental specialist
• Valid DEA license – required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR/AED certification – required
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Good hand‑eye condition
• A patient and empathetic disposition

Additional Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skills
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Knowledgeable about and experienced with principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery
• Knowledgeable about and experienced with dental terminology and dental science
• Knowledgeable about and experienced with theories, methods, and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment
• Knowledgeable of current principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment; knowledgeable of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care
• Knowledgeable of relevant drugs and non‑pharmaceutical patient‑care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage
• Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
• Ability to provide hands‑on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility, and responsiveness
• Ability to perform in high volume and emergency situations
• Knowledge of community‑based dental environment
• Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards
• Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Excellent planning and organizational ability
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
• Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry 25 lb
• Ability to stand for long periods of time

Compliance (Safety & HIPAA)

• Follow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately
• Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices
• Use appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury‑free environment
• Be familiar with the location of the nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits
• Follow all infection control procedures, including blood‑borne pathogen protocols
• Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need‑to‑know basis for business purposes
• Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations
• Report all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful

Pay Range

$120.09 – $204.47 / hr, per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications.

The posted salary range reflects the designated pay grade for this position. While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, budgetary considerations, and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
