Assistant Football Coach

Assistant Coach – Flag Football (Girls) The Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools is seeking an assistant coach for St. John Paul II Catholic High School in Avondale, Arizona. The candidate will support the varsity head coach in organizing practices, teaching fundamentals, and fostering a positive Catholic environment for student‑athletes. Qualifications • Coaching and/or playing experience preferred; at least two years of previous high‑school varsity coaching or equivalent required. • Valid CPR and First Aid card. • Certification in NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Class, Positive Coaching Alliance, or equivalent. • Completion of Diocesan Safe Environment Training, current fingerprint card, concussion training, heat and illness prevention, sudden cardiac arrest training and First Aid, health and safety courses (NFHS). • Must meet the EEO guidelines set out in the district’s policy. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with organization, planning, and implementation of practice sessions and contest game plans. Teach the fundamentals, system, and techniques of the sport, emphasizing good sportsmanship. Maintain discipline and encourage players in a non‑physical, positive manner. Attend all coaching staff and Athletic Department meetings as needed. Increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program. Dress appropriately for practices and games, acting as a positive Catholic role model. Keep current on all rules, regulations, and guidelines (Athletic Handbook, League Constitution, AIA Code of Ethics, NFHS Handbook). Report missing athletes, roster changes, and injuries to the Varsity Head Coach immediately. Attend conventions and professional clinics as assigned. Perform other duties requested by the Varsity Head Coach or Athletic Director (e.g., weight room supervision, equipment inventory, transportation, fundraising, Open House events). Abide by coaching agreement, AIA, and school Code of Ethics. Promote the department and school “Philosophy” and “Mission” statements in a spirit of assistance and presence as taught at St. John Paul II Catholic High School. Terms of Employment Seasonal coaching contract approved by the Athletic Director and/or Principal. Evaluation by Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director at the end of each season; results forwarded to Principal.
