Position Summary:
The Senior Caregiver/PSS provides compassionate, non-medical in-home care and support to seniors and adults with disabilities. The caregiver assists clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), companionship, household tasks, and transportation while promoting independence, dignity, safety, and quality of life. Typical duties include personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, mobility assistance, and documenting client care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Personal Care Assistance

• Assist clients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and personal hygiene.
• Provide toileting and incontinence care.
• Assist with mobility, transfers, ambulation, and fall prevention.
• Support clients with eating and hydration needs.

Companionship and Emotional Support

• Provide meaningful companionship and social interaction.
• Engage clients in conversation, activities, and community involvement.
• Promote emotional well-being and reduce social isolation.

Household Support

• Prepare nutritious meals and snacks.
• Perform light housekeeping, laundry, dishes, and linen changes.
• Assist with grocery shopping and errands as outlined in the care plan.

Transportation Assistance

• Transport clients to medical appointments, errands, and community activities as authorized.
• Accompany clients when needed to ensure safety and support.

Client Monitoring and Documentation

• Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, or mental condition.
• Maintain accurate visit documentation and complete required EVV records.
• Follow individualized care plans and agency policies.

Qualifications

• Current Maine Personal Support Specialist (PSS) certification preferred.
• CNA, PSS, CRMA, or equivalent caregiving experience considered.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate, dependable, and able to work independently.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients safely.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform household tasks.
• Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with seniors, dementia care, or individuals with disabilities.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of aging-related challenges and person-centered care practices.
