Principal Scientist II, Analytical Platform Sciences and Characterization, tLNP

AbbVie seeks a Principal Scientist II to lead analytical platform sciences for targeted lipid nanoparticle therapeutics. The role involves building advanced characterization capabilities, leading a multidisciplinary team, and driving analytical innovation across mRNA-LNP drug development.
Responsibilities
- Establish scientific strategy for analytical platform organization and advance mechanistic understanding of tLNP systems
- Drive development and application of advanced analytical technologies and characterization approaches
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary team while fostering scientific excellence and innovation culture
- Influence formulation, process, and control-strategy decisions across development programs
- Build collaborations with internal stakeholders, academic partners, and external technology providers
Requirements
- Master's degree with 14+ years or Ph.D. with 8+ years in analytical chemistry and related industry experience
- Deep expertise in analytical development of lipid nanoparticles, oligonucleotides, biologics, or gene therapies
- Advanced knowledge in particle characterization, mass spectrometry, cryo-EM, spectroscopy, or biophysical techniques
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary scientific programs and cross-functional teams
- Track record of scientific innovation and translating analytical findings into development decisions
- Experience mentoring and developing scientists in research or development settings
- Experience applying data science, modeling, automation, or AI to analytical challenges
