Principal Engineer

Reports To: President/CEO | Classification: Full-Time, Exempt | FLSA: Salary Capitol Engineering & Automation provides professional engineering, system integration, and troubleshooting services as well as a panel shop for building custom electrical panels that are UL508A certified. The Principal Engineer is responsible for the daily operation and profitability of the business and is a working leader position. Principal Engineer The Principal Engineer will be responsible for managing operations and reporting for Capitol Engineering & Automation as well as creating a strategic vision to grow the business. Key Responsibilities Reporting The Principal Engineer reports directly to the President/CEO of AE Company. Analyze and present financial results of Capitol E&A operations. People Management Coordinate and oversee employee work activities and training. Employees at Capitol E&A report directly to the Principal Engineer, including project managers, engineers, technicians, etc. Evaluate employees and review performance regularly. Participate in hiring, advising, counseling, and disciplining employees. Other Responsibilities Develop sales and execution strategy for Capitol E&A. Reviews quality systems, safety procedures, and training to protect company assets. Coordinate with the AE Company Safety and Risk Management departments regarding standards compliance, training, and reporting. Qualifications College degree in Engineering or related field. Current Kentucky PE license or reciprocal state with the ability to attain a Kentucky PE license. Two years’ experience stamping drawings/designs. Five or more years’ experience in managing and deploying automation and controls systems (commercial/industrial) preferred. Dependable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Primarily on-site at AE Company Frankfort office. Role occasionally requires working in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Some tasks may require working early morning, evening, or weekend hours depending on business needs.
