AES Indiana is in the process of developing and building several generation projects to meet increasing demand driven by data center growth in the service area of AES Indiana. The immediate focus will be the technical development of at least one CCGT power plant of approximately 650 MW with a second CCGT a strong possibility. There will be several other generation projects that will also be developed to bridge the growth of demand until the first CCGT comes online in 2033/2034.
The Pre-NTP Contracts Manager/Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and managing the overall engineering development of the projects from feasibility studies through execution planning and EPC contract award. This role will serve as the primary engineering integrator across mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, and other technical disciplines, ensuring alignment between project requirements, technical specifications, commercial objectives, and contract deliverables.
The position will play a key role in the development, negotiation, evaluation, and administration of EPC contracts while coordinating the efforts of Owner's Engineers, consultants, equipment suppliers, and internal stakeholders. This role could evolve into a Project Engineering Manager position during project execution.
Responsibilities
Provide Safety Leadership in all aspects of the Project.
Lead the overall engineering development of generation projects, ensuring coordination and integration across all technical disciplines.
Manage the development of project technical requirements, specifications, and engineering standards.
Coordinate Owner's Engineers, consultants, and SMEs to ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
Support technology evaluations, feasibility studies, and technical due diligence activities.
Lead the preparation, review, and evaluation of EPC bid packages and technical proposals.
Support commercial and contractual negotiations with EPC contractors, major equipment suppliers, and engineering consultants.
Manage contract administration activities during project development, including:
a. Scope definition and clarification
b. Technical and commercial risk reviews
c. Change management support
d. Contract compliance monitoring
e. Coordination of contractor deliverables
Ensure engineering decisions support project cost, schedule, operability, maintainability, and performance objectives.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Maintenance, T&D, Environmental, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams.
Review project schedules and engineering execution plans to ensure alignment with project milestones.
Support development of project budgets, risk assessments, and project execution strategies.
Studies and Experience
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, or related discipline) required.
Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in power generation, industrial facilities, or large infrastructure projects.
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering efforts on large capital projects.
Experience supporting the development, negotiation, and administration of EPC contracts.
Experience with CCGT, conventional power generation, or large industrial projects strongly preferred.
Construction and commissioning experience is highly desirable.
Experience reviewing project schedules and understanding project controls principles.
Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies, risk management, and contract management practices.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate technical and commercial stakeholders.
Exceptional written, verbal, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced project development environment.
