Production Technician

Production Technician / General Operator

This role supports a high-volume agricultural production facility by operating equipment, handling seed products, and performing a wide range of seasonal tasks across planting, growing, harvesting, packaging, warehousing, and shipping. You work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, rotating through different duties and shifts as business needs change, while maintaining safety, product quality, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate production and field equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure consistent product quality.
• Rotate through various roles within the production area, including machine operation, box wash, packaging, warehousing, and, in some cases, control room duties.
• Perform repetitive lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of seed and related materials up to 60 pounds, and handle repetitive movements throughout the shift.
• Walk, stand, sit, and climb stairs for extended periods while working in elevated areas and on uneven surfaces in and around the facility.
• Support seed crop inspection and maintenance activities in the field during spring and summer, helping to maintain crop health and quality.
• Assist with seed inventory management at the plant, including tracking, organizing, and moving product as needed.
• Participate in harvesting and seed packaging activities during the fall, ensuring accurate labeling, tagging, and handling of seed products.
• Perform winter-season tasks such as cleaning, packaging seed, supporting maintenance work, warehousing, and shipping to prepare for the next planting season.
• Label, tag, bag, and palletize seed, ensuring all product is accurately identified and properly stacked for storage or shipment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in manufacturing, production, or farming environments.
• Ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift depending on team assignment, including 5x8, 4x10, or 3-on/3-off schedules.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including repetitive lifting up to 60 pounds, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and working in elevated areas.
• Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, mud, rain, pollen, and exposure to insects and potential bee stings.

Work Environment

This is an agricultural production site with a fast-paced, physically demanding environment that includes both indoor and outdoor work. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift (typically around 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (start times may vary, such as 11:00 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.), and 3rd shift (commonly 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.)

The environment can be dusty, noisy, and exposed to the elements, including heat, cold, mud, rain, and pollen, with potential exposure to insects and bee stings. Work often involves climbing stairs, working in elevated areas, and walking on uneven surfaces. Personal protective equipment is required and typically includes a hardhat, safety vest, hearing protection, and steel or composite toe boots. Steel-toe footwear must be worn every day. The facility emphasizes safety and cleanliness, but the work remains strenuous and hands-on, with frequent housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, dusting, washing equipment, and cleaning harvest boxes. Shift differentials apply, with higher hourly rates for 2nd and 3rd shifts compared to 1st shift, reflecting the varied schedules and operating hours of the plant.

This is a Contract position based out of Tipton, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $20.50/hr.
