Patient Svcs Rep

Position Overview

The Patient Services Representative schedules appointments and performs general clerical duties for The Eye Center (TEC). Clerical duties may include data entry, creating patient files, organizing and sorting paperwork and other assigned duties.


Essential Functions

• Makes and accurately records a large volume of patient appointments via computer for The Eye Center, both in person and over the phone.
• Answers patient and general public inquiries in person or via telephone.
• Communicates with patients regarding scheduled appointments, missed appointments, etc. verbally and through written communication.
• Assists with or assumes responsibility for organizing, sorting, etc. paperwork to be filed by others.
• Generates necessary reports as required or requested using appropriate systems.
• Assists in other areas of The Eye Center as requested or needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.


Experience: One year related experience. Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of accurately using business English, spelling, and business mathematics.
• Ability to file and maintain accurate medical records.
• Ability to enter data accurately.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of workflow. Ability to work under pressure. Meet deadlines and work independently.
• Ability to deal with others with courtesy and tact using good verbal communication skills and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work well with others in a team approach to provide a service.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Physical Demands

Regular sitting with regular standing and walking. Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds. Must be able to reach six-foot shelving.

Audible Demands

Use phone and communication with staff, faculty, students, patients/family members, and the general public.

Visual Demands

Operates phone system, computer use, reading and preparing documents/reports and forms.

Environmental Conditions

Work is conducted in a typical indoor work environment with good lighting, noise, and temperature control.

Hazards

Minimal risk of job-related injury or illness.

Other Responsibilities

• Employees must maintain confidentiality of all medical and insurance records.
• Employees may work any shift based on operational needs.
• An employee wears a company-issued uniform during working hours.
• Employees may be required to operate various business machines, including calculators, computers, printers, labelers, copiers, and fax machines.
