Veterinarian - Locum

Job Summary Locum Veterinarian – salary range $140–$160 per hour.Primary purpose: to provide preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries of pets. Essential Responsibilities Safely restrain and protect pets, clients, and associates; maintain clean, sterile, and organized exam rooms, labs, and treatment areas following standard protocols. Obtain relevant history from clients and maintain accurate, complete medical records. Educate clients on preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses, treatments, hospital services, and related information. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service, including prescribing and administering preventative care and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries. Communicate diagnosis and treatment plans effectively to the veterinary medical team and clients. Maintain controlled‑substance inventory logs and comply with local, state, and federal laws. Follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications – Capabilities and Experience Can multi‑task and switch focus between tasks quickly and accurately. Strong communication skills: reading, writing, speaking fluent English with accurate grammar, style, and vocabulary. Organizational ability: systematic approach, orderly, and able to turn chaos into order. Surgical skills: proven ability to perform all basic surgeries using standard instruments and equipment. Problem‑solving skills: identify, analyze, and solve problems decisively. Client‑service skills: courteous, informative service and advocacy for pets. Intellectual ability: accurately follow instructions, both oral and written. Compassionate commitment to pet care, advocating for appropriate treatment and fees. Mathematical ability: basic arithmetic, rate/ratio calculations, unit conversion. Computer skills: comfortable with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and specialized veterinary software. Management ability: enforce policies, achieve high productivity, encourage teamwork, and coach for performance management. Attitudes – Will Do Initiative: use discretion to find solutions, propose ideas, and take on additional responsibility. Integrity: honest, discreet, and judgment‑sound conduct. Special Working Conditions • Confident handling of dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other pets. • Work volume may exceed 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings. • Moderate noise level in the work environment. • Exposure to pet bites, scratches, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and controlled substances. • Mobility requirement: stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds. • Good hand‑eye coordination, finger‑hand‑arm dexterity, and visual acuity for keyboard use and equipment operation. • Mental processing for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and reading, writing, and speaking English. Experience, Education & Training Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree. State veterinary board license in good standing. DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) license required.
