Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Provide general Internal medicine care of inpatient services in keeping with good clinical practice and the standards of the Hospitalist Section and Medicine Service at the Syracuse Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and SUNY Upstate Medical University, where you will be given an academic appointment commensurate with your experience and education.
2. Close supervision and education of internal medicine residents and medical students in all their clinical activities.
3. Participation in educational activities related to the internal medicine residency program.
4. Collaboration with the physician extenders and nursing care providers throughout the hospital.
5. Be a resource for Primary Care providers ensuring a smooth transition of patients from inpatient to outpatient settings.
6. Provide expertise in multispecialty and patient care related discussions.
7. As a staff physician in the Hospitalist section, you will be encouraged to participate in the development of on-going research, quality improvement and teaching as it relates to your professional interests.
8. Provide inpatient General Internal Medicine consultation services to non-teaching and non-medicine teams, including the direct supervision and education of medical consultative house staff.
9. Provide inpatient internal medicine attending services including clinical procedures within your specialty area of expertise on the general medicine teams, and stepdown inpatient units.
10. Daytime hospitalists take part in an evening jeopardy system in rotation if there is an emergency absence of attending physician coverage at night, whereby they may very rarely be asked to work with a night float team of medical residents covering medical inpatients, admissions and cross covering the ICU with the assistance/back up of intensivist personnel.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment):

This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay:

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off:

50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Full-Time, 7AM - 7PM.
