Shipping Manager-DCThe Shipping Manager has overall responsibility of the Shipping Department including loading, unloading, processing paperwork and monitoring all equipment operators. Safe operations, accurate paperwork and properly loaded trucks are critical to success in the role. This position includes manual labor.Essential Functions:Ensure all trucks are loaded with the proper contents per the manifest.Supervises and works together with other managers well.Develops schedules, monitors performance and recommends the proper discipline as appropriate including terminationsTrains employees in job responsibilities and safe operating procedures.Interviews candidates and recommends for hires with HR and Assistant Branch Manager.Ensures that employees are picking and processing orders expediently, accurately and timely.Picks and processes orders as needed to support goals of Distribution Center.Reviews product being picked from stock to ensure order accuracy.Reviews staging lanes to ensure all product is loaded properly per store destination.Follow load optimization scheme to ensure outbound trucks are at or optimal cube and weightMaintains material handling equipment and communicates malfunctioning machines to management.Follows program to maintain the cleanliness of the area by a regular maintenance schedule of scrubbing, and pulling out pallets and cleaning underneath.Understands the general function of a warehouse management system (WMS) and can follow work instructions well.Escalates Warehouse Management System problems and process opportunities to Assistant Branch ManagerAssures that trash is removed from floor and properly discarded including broken pallets, scraps of wood, corrugated, food and others.Makes sure that low stock/out of stock or other inventory related concerns are communicated to the Inventory ControllerPerforms additional duties, responsibilities and projects as assigned.Performs weekly self-audits of the staging lanes, loading dock, and checks in with employees during stand up meetings and KPI reviews.Supports Distribution Center cleanliness, organization and success.Strengthen the knowledge and skills of the entire team ultimately bettering the performance of the Distribution Center.Education, Experience and Skills Required:Bachelor's Degree, OR High School Diploma OR GED with at least 4 years experience in customer service, OR any appropriate combination of education and experience.Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, and colleaguesAbility to calculate figures, and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, mass and volume.Effective oral and written communication skills.High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situation and documentation.Commitment to company values and strong customer orientation.Computer LiteracyPossesses traits of a self-starter who is focused on accuracy and qualityIs committed to personal and team safety and professionalismPhysical Requirements:Lift/Carry Abilities (measured for maximum or average load)Lift – 50 lbsCarry strength (50' or less) – 50 lbsFrequent lift/carry (> 12x/hour) – 50 lbsConstant lift/carry (> 30x/hr) – 20 lbsPhysical Aptitudes (rated based on level of skill involved)Agility/dynamic balance 80-100%Finger dexterity – 80-100%Manual dexterity – 80 – 100%Posture Tolerance (rated based on frequency or time involved)Stand/walk – constantlyReach above shoulder level – occasionallyTwist/turn head – occasionallyBend over/stoop – occasionallyClimb steps/ladder – occasionallyKneel/squat - occasionallyWork Environment:Ambient temperature Distribution CenterOccasional interactions outside with loading carriersAcknowledgement:I fully understand the responsibilities and qualifications required for this job.
