Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:
Under the direction of the school principal, the Assistant Principal takes charge of the school in the absence of the principal, and assists in the direction and coordination of educational, administrative, supervisory and counseling activities at school, and performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists in the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan;
2. Aligns all actions in support of the District and School/Principal vision;
3. Assists in the development and monitoring of the local school budget under the supervision of the principal;
4. Plans and supervises student activity programs;
5. Provides individual and group guidance to students for personal problems, and educational and vocational objectives;
6. Takes or recommends disciplinary action for students or employees in violation of established discipline codes;
7. Meets with parents and guardians to review student progress or problems;
8. Supervises students at assemblies and social and athletic events; directs and coordinates teacher/staff supervision of lunchrooms, corridors and playgrounds;
9. Observes teacher and other personnel's performance and provides recommendations regarding performance to the school principal;
10. Assists in supervising student teachers assigned to the school;
11. Assists in making arrangements for and overseeing substitutes teachers at the school;
12. Responds to inquiries and concerns from students, parents, and general public concerning school operating policies and procedures.
13. Assist in supervising lunchroom/hallways;
14. Provide supervision as summer school coordinator;
15. Schedule, organize, and support all district and state testing;
16. May teach courses;
17. May organize and conduct in-service teacher and career service training;
18. May accompany students on field trips;
19. May sponsor clubs, activities and athletics.

Qualifications:

1. Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels.

4. Passion to embrace the goals of raising achievement for all students and closing the achievement gaps.
5. 5+ years of successful teaching experience
6. 2+ years of instructional leadership experience [assistant principal; curriculum or program coordinator, instructional coach etc.]
7. Valid Principal Endorsement [formerly known as Type 75 Educational Administrative Certificate] issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
8. Valid Teacher Evaluator Endorsements [Observation Module 1-3, Non-Growth Module 1-4; and Growth Module 1-5]
9. Proficiency in using the Danielson Framework to efficiently leverage required teacher observations as a useful platform for instructional growth
10. Knowledge of Common Core State Standards
11. Experience with PBIS; SEL and Restorative practices
12. Familiarity with systems including Illuminate, Tableau, Infinite Campus
13. Experience with scheduling
14. Commitment to community outreach and involvement
15. Positive; proactive approach to problem solving
16. Experience with management of social media or willingness to learn;
17. Bilingual- Spanish speaking candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

LEADERSHIP:
This includes but is not limited to:

• A belief in strong distributive leadership: grade/content level leads and teacher teams will develop the capacity of teacher leaders and fortify the organizational capacity of the school
• Developing, revising and monitoring the school's SIP priorities and milestones and supporting the principal in maintaining a budget aligned to priorities
• Coaching teachers, as individuals and in teams
• Planning and delivering highly engaging and coherent professional development on a variety of topics including: classroom management, unit planning, lesson planning and assessment creation
• Analyzing school data and student performance
• Creating and maintaining a positive school culture that focuses on students and emphasizes high academic expectations including social emotional needs, attendance and safety and security
• Guiding instructional leadership team in the development and implementation of Cycles of Continuous Improvement
• Ability to create and monitor student and staff programs and schedules

INSTRUCTION:
This includes but is not limited to:

• Utilizing assessment data to drive curriculum and instruction
• Understanding bilingual education including program models, instruction, policy and compliance
• Understanding legal requirements of IEP's
• Experience using research-based rubric [Danielson] to assess quality of instruction and provide teachers with targeted feedback for improvement and reinforcement

PLANNING AND PREPARATION:
This includes, but is not limited to:

• Weekly use of assessment data to support teacher teams in implementing data driven instruction protocols with fidelity
• Experience with best practices to differentiate instruction to meet the instructional needs of all students
• Experience with implementing literacy across all content areas
• Experience with CCSS to develop standards based curriculum
• Experience reviewing and supporting unit and lesson plan writing and curriculum maps to ensure alignment with standards
• Experience with interim assessments to set school instructional priorities and to inform staff professional development
• Able to promote technology implementation within the school

CLASSROOM/SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT:
This includes but is not limited to:

• Use of misconduct data and classroom observation data to support teachers in developing a classroom environment that supports positive relationships with all stakeholders
• Experience with PBIS model of classroom management
• Experience with SEL strategies

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This includes but is not limited to:

• Use of data applications to monitor school progress
• Family and community engagement to support student learning
• Collaboration with teacher teams to drive school goals
• Commitment to lead outreach initiative including but not limited to: sponsoring afterschool events, conducting home visits; participation in parent involvement activities
• Commitment to collaborate with staff to implement school-wide behavioral plan to improve school culture and support student achievement

Job hours: Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the Twilight evening program and will have modified hours to accommodate the program


Terms of Employment: 12 months
