The primary purpose of this position, MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-4749-10, is to provide support in installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying Industrial Plant Equipment (IPE) and Real Property Installed Equipment (RPIE) along with the modification of production facilities to accommodate this equipment. Responsibilities Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, guides, codes, and work orders, in the installation maintenance, and repair of IPE/RPIE equipment and facilities. Perform tasks of various skills that include electrical, mechanical and pipefitting repairs. Incumbent will install and assemble piping, fittings, and accessories/components to high-and low-pressure liquid lines, vacuum lines, heat exchangers, hydraulic lines, heating and cooling coils and numerous other high/low pressure systems. Perform mechanical installation, maintenance, repair of IPE/ RPIE equipment. Use and assure proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Maintain bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping. On-Site work typically requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, and rooftops. Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing on production lines; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting/carrying, 25 pounds and over, with assistance. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works indoors and outdoors on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to chemicals, heat, steam, noise, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Occasionally works outside on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to possible burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions follows prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, and fire-retardant gloves. Education Additional Information Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City.
