Specimen Technician - Hospital Location: Columbia, MO Schedule: Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, 30‑minute lunch. Pay: $18.00+ per hour, with shift differential of 10% for second shift and 15% for third shift. Shift differential details will be provided if an offer is extended. Responsibilities Prepare patient specimens for hospital clients and pick up by couriers. Represent Quest Diagnostics to the customer, maintaining positive daily client interactions (face‑to‑face and/or telephone). Prepare and arrange all stat testing needs; research pending results; notify Hospital IT of communication failures; accept and troubleshoot incoming calls from Quest Diagnostics facilities. Demonstrate excellent proficiency in test‑ordering policies, procedures, specimen requirements, Care 360, and compliance/legal requirements. Troubleshoot and problem‑solve client issues related to area of responsibility. Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Hospital Lab Manager, Quest Diagnostics sales team, and other functions in the organization. Relay client concerns to Quest Diagnostics supervisor and sales; participate in sales/operations review of account. Communicate information regarding specimen problem‑solving, test cancellations, testing requirements, and billing requirements with various hospital staff, such as phlebotomy, outpatient draw centers, laboratory managers, department supervisors, Hospital IT Analysts, physicians, nurses, and pathologists. Develop understanding of company processes and client expectations. Develop understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering. Research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and directory of services. Understand the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received. Complete all required written documentation legibly and within the assigned timeframe. Perform other duties as assigned. Preferred Work Experience Medical background that includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory. Previous laboratory, customer service, or hospital experience. Skills Demonstrated data entry skills to effectively utilize both the Quest Diagnostics system and the hospital client systems.
