BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

Position Behavior Intervention Specialist – 5 positions available. 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, 9.5 months per year. Benefits provided. Location: Special Education. Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Summary of Duties Assist with functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans under the Director of Special Education or designee. Direct instructional and behavioral support services to students in the district, focusing on students who struggle to conform to acceptable behavior patterns. Develop and implement programs, policies, and practices related to the management of students’ problematic behaviors, including those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Emotional Disturbance (ED). Collaborate with administrators, certificated, and classified staff to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans and provide one‑on‑one or group Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. Provide intensive behavioral intervention services, analyze IEPs and BIPs, manage severe behavioral incidents, support students throughout the school day in various settings, and implement ABA teaching strategies. Collect and analyze behavioral data to refine intervention strategies and share findings with the team. Distinguishing Characteristics Advanced knowledge of ABA; trained to provide individual and group services. Data‑driven approach; responsible for collection and analysis of behavioral data. Focus on students with significant behavioral challenges, rather than general support roles. Employment Requirements Education: High‑school graduation or equivalency required. College‑level coursework in child development, psychology, behavior management, or child education desired. Experience: Two years of experience implementing or creating individualized behavior services for school‑aged students with developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses, or severe behavior problems in a home‑based, center‑based, or educational/social services setting. Equivalency for Current RUSD Employees: Current Rowland Unified School District employees may qualify if they have been a Instructional Assistant II for at least three years or a Behavior Support Assistant for at least two years. Required Documentation (at time of application): Proof of education: HS diploma or equivalent, or copy of highest completed degree (AA/BA/MA) on letterhead or watermarked paper. Certificate of completion of a 40‑hour Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training program as outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Valid Basic/Standard First Aid Certificate. Valid CPR Certificate (Child and Adult). License and Training Requirements Completed 40‑hour RBT training program. Valid California Class C driver’s license with a good driving record; personal vehicle required. Valid First Aid and CPR certificates maintained during employment. Up to 12 hours of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during probation; annual re‑certification required. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Tier I, II, and III training during probation. Work Environment & Hazards Employees work both inside and outside the classroom and may be exposed to airborne pathogens, blood or other bodily fluids, and germs. Work may involve driving a personal vehicle to conduct fieldwork and direct contact with students, district personnel, and the public, sometimes without direct supervision. Hazards include exposure to aggressive student behavior and emergency situations. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, restrain students in crisis situations, speak and hear clearly, bend, stoop, reach, stand, and walk for extended periods, operate computer equipment, and safely drive a vehicle.
