Salary range: Minimum pay set by UC salary scales; base pay $297,000 – $385,000. Salary negotiated annually. Position description The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego seeks an academic clinical pathologist (physician or physician‑scientist) to serve as the Director of the Clinical Coagulation and Hemostasis section of the UC San Diego Health Clinical Laboratories. The successful candidate will provide medical and technical oversight and serve as a primary clinical consultant for all general and specialized clinical coagulation and hemostasis laboratory services at La Jolla‑Jacobs Medical Center, Hillcrest Medical Center, and the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM). The role involves developing, validating, and implementing advanced diagnostic tests; ensuring quality and patient safety; promoting laboratory stewardship; and providing key interpretative and consultation services to support patient care in high‑acuity clinical programs. The director will also participate in teaching medical students, laboratory scientist trainees, pathology residents, and clinical fellows, including those in ACGME‑accredited hematopathology and hematology/oncology programs. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required) MD or equivalent or MD/PhD in a biological sciences, chemistry/biochemistry, molecular biology/genetics, experimental pathology, or another health‑related field. Eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification. Board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath) in clinical pathology (CP), anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP), or equivalent. Alternatively, certification by another ABMS‑approved primary medical specialty board (e.g., ABIM or ABP) and eligibility for a subspecialty certification in transfusion medicine, hematopathology, hematology, or pediatric hematology‑oncology. Preferred qualifications Minimum of three years of clinical practice experience in clinical coagulation and hemostasis.
