Overview Rogers Behavioral Health (RBH) is a not-for-profit behavioral health system providing psychiatric services and research across multiple levels of care, including inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient services. Primary hospitals are in Wisconsin with clinics across Wisconsin and 9 other states (CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MN, PA, TN, WA). The physician will serve as a team leader in a multi-faceted treatment team model and may work in one or more levels of care, in live or virtual environments, while supporting admissions, protocol development, quality assurance, and peer review. The physician will collaborate with nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and supervise residents and fellows during educational rotations. PRN Roles: PRN physicians may include individuals who are volunteering on weekends or part-time, or moonlighting residents in their third year of residency or higher. Responsibilities The Physician will: Attend patients at the Site and via Telehealth, with coverage at assigned locations. May cover additional sites as needed to meet RVU targets, daily patient visit goals, or address provider shortages. Accept referrals from medical physicians, psychiatrists, and refer patients to the referring physician for outpatient care after discharge, unless the patient’s preference or medical interests indicate otherwise. Provide written and verbal discharge summaries to referring physicians. Continue to see patients on units seen by Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, serving as a collaborating physician for them and completing psychiatric evaluations. Participate in call coverage based on an equitable pre-determined schedule. Lead and sign treatment plans for each patient and participate in ongoing care activities. Medical Activities: The Physician shall perform medical functions to ensure high-quality treatment for psychiatric disorders, including: Conduct psychiatric assessments within hospital policy timelines. Conduct rounds as assigned and complete discharge summaries timely. Complete emergency detentions when appropriate, including related filings and court proceedings; follow duty-to-warn standards. Participate in quality assurance activities and provide medication education with nursing staff. Attend Medical Staff and Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings; provide supervision of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNP) and/or Physician Assistants (PA) Payor Relations: Assist in contracting with payors for mental health services and maintain positive relationships with contracted payors. Review denials deemed for medical reasons and coordinate with referring parties to ensure care and compliance with EMTALA as needed. Interface with referring parties, psychiatrists, family practice, and pediatricians to coordinate care and market the Employer as appropriate, including off-site meetings and marketing activities. Review potential admissions and denials to ensure policy execution and compliance. Advocacy: The Physician should advocate for the Sites, supporting quality patient care and helping raise the sites’ visibility and reputation. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and identify new program development opportunities for patient care. Engage in community education on behavioral health issues as requested. Admissions Support: At the Employer’s discretion, support admissions processes, including: Provide initial placement recommendations based on admitting criteria and screenings to determine appropriate program, level of care, and mode of delivery. Review admissions screening interviews, transfer documentation, external provider documentation, prior treatment histories, and other materials to determine suitability and program alignment. Assess cognitive and psychological functioning to determine benefit from treatment and programming; understand available programs and guidance for appropriate care. Interact with team members and referents professionally; convey recommendations clearly to manage expectations and coordinate care. Document progress using the tracking system and attend relevant MDI huddles; complete reviews and supporting work promptly to ensure a quality prospective patient experience. Communication: Communicate professionally with other departments and agencies as needed, refer to and work with relevant teams, and report pertinent data to the attending provider and the team. Prioritize urgent issues and communicate difficult problems promptly with referents, patients, families, and coworkers. Develop and maintain relationships with medical staff and other providers for ongoing re-review or case communication. Verbal and hearing ability to interact with patients and employees; numerical ability to maintain records and operate computer systems; reading and communication skills; ability to walk, sit, and stand; physical work is light to moderate with lifting up to 20 pounds; physical exam by a licensed physician may be required for post-employment clearance.
