Associate Attorney - Trust and Estate Litigation

Location: Sacramento, California
Position Type: Full-Time Litigation Associate Attorney
Work Arrangement: Sacramento office, with the option for partial remote work
Compensation: $115,000 - $200,000+ depending on experience and annual billables

THE POSITION

We are seeking a cutting-edge associate who will work closely with our current team to assist in taking litigated trust and estate matters from beginning to end. The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience, but we will consider candidates with less experience. Trust and Estate experience is not required but is preferred.

The ideal candidate will also be comfortable with technology and excited about the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence tools to improve efficiency, organization, drafting support, research workflows, and client service, subject to firm policies. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and includes medical benefits and matching 401k. The firm uses a compensation structure that immediately rewards hard work with bonuses on every paycheck.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Conduct comprehensive factual investigations, including witness interviews
• Conduct legal research and analysis with the assistance of AI
• Engage with clients, opposing counsel, and all necessary individuals
• Propound and answer written discovery
• Prepare for and conduct depositions
• Prepare persuasive, internal memoranda, pleadings and briefs
• Present oral argument
• Assist in negotiations, mediations, trial preparation, trials and appeals

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Work cooperatively with partners, senior associates, paralegals, secretaries, and other staff
• Learn to manage client expectations and help clients recognize, develop and pursue objectives in the clients’ best interest
• Participate in the broader professional business community

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Juris Doctorate degree
• Admission to practice by the State Bar of California
• Must possess excellent analytical, writing and oral skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Associates must be able to sit for extended periods of time while performing their duties, must walk through the office multiple times each day, and must occasionally stand for extended periods of time. Associates must be able to bend, stoop, and twist while lifting boxes weighing 10 pounds or more. The position requires typing, writing and placing telephone calls, which requires repetitive use of the hands and wrists.
