Harbor City, CA 90710, USA Total Safety is looking for a Tech I – Fall Protection to join our safety-conscious team! Responsibilities Performs receipt, inspection, cleaning, servicing, reassembling and testing of various Fall Protection equipment in accordance with approved testing and service procedures. Conducts detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment to report deficiencies and recommend corrective action. Assesses repair needs and quotes customer price and delivery for repair or replacement. Completes all documentation and data entry for inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner and obtains customer signature for proper invoicing and documentation. Includes inspection and repair documents, job cost billable expenses and timesheets. Assists others in the facility by stocking shelves with clean, tested and ready‑to‑use equipment, and pulling, staging and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery. Maintains work area and other areas clean and orderly. Performs additional duties after training. Qualifications High School diploma or GED. At least two (2) years of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry. Valid driver’s license from state of residence and proof of vehicle insurance. Must have a good driving record and be insurable under Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck. Forklift experience preferred; must be able to pass internal forklift certification. Willingness to travel to customers’ sites and to travel for short and long‑term out‑of‑town and/or offshore projects. Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities Consistently demonstrates the ability to operate assigned equipment meeting or exceeding service and quality targets; can operate, maintain, reassemble and test electronic safety equipment per manufacturers’ specifications. Meets or exceeds service and quality targets; independently troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems regardless of complexity, and takes corrective action within policy and procedure limits. Knowledge of state, OSHA, ANSI and NFPA regulations pertinent to assigned responsibilities. Can perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Proficient in the care and use of all site‑specific, facility and customer‑required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment and is willing to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Interpersonal Communications Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions); can write technical reports and correspondence. Second language a plus. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees; daily customer contact and frequent contact with other facility personnel to understand issues. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly stands, walks, and stoops, kneels, or crouches. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; and talks or hears. Occasionally sits. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Work environment may be in a shop and yard, exposed to wet, humid, outdoor weather, vibration, high pressure chemicals, shop traffic, and noise which is usually moderate. Reporting Relationships Duties involve the use of procedures with predetermined standards. Requires some judgment to arrange job details to achieve objectives, analyzes problems, and may suggest process improvements. Supervisor reviews progress versus detailed checks for technical adequacy and conformance with practice and policy. Works under general supervision, receives broad instructions, and may assist with training less experienced staff.
