Groundskeeper

Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Groundskeeper to help maintain attractive, healthy, and well-kept campus landscapes. This role cares for lawns, trees, shrubs, plants, and ornamental ground covers through planting, pruning, fertilizing, watering, soil preparation, and other grounds maintenance activities. The position also operates a variety of groundskeeping equipment, including riding mowers and power edgers, while supporting the overall appearance and care of assigned landscape areas. This is a hands-on opportunity to work outdoors and contribute to a welcoming campus environment.

Summary of Responsibilities

Responsibilities include garbage pick-up, preparing greenhouse beds for bedding plants, mowing and trimming of campus lawns and landscaping, operating light and heavy tractors, trucks, and stationary equipment, assisting in repairing mechanical equipment, maintaining accurate records, assisting the water master in sprinkler system operation, and repairing valves, sprinkler heads, and other components of the sprinkling systems.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation with a high school diploma and half a year of related experience. Preferred Qualifications include one and a half years of experience related to the summary of duties. Licenses or Certifications include a valid Utah license at the time of employment.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape gardening, including planting, transplanting, and pruning. Knowledge of grade fertilizers and their application. Knowledge of the mechanical operations and methods of repairing equipment. Skills include the ability to expend arduous physical effort and to work in conditions that may involve some hazards and considerable discomfort. Abilities include operating light trucks, tractors, and stationary equipment, maintaining accurate and accessible records, and maintaining buildings and grounds with a minimum of supervision.
