Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) - Chemical Process Operator

Position Summary This is an hourly – Direct Labor position responsible for operating and supporting the coating process. The primary equipment is operated through HMIs and a series of controls. The operator will produce the required amount of product while ensuring compliance with all EHS and quality requirements. The role involves teamwork with Operations Support, Engineering, Maintenance and Management, occasional overtime and limited travel for training. Progression within the role is possible. Duties and Responsibilities Perform complex tasks following procedures and work instructions. Maintain timely and accurate record keeping using digital and handwritten tools. Maintain 100% compliance with PPE requirements. Participate in CPEX initiatives such as 5S, TPM, SW, VM. Operate within a Fixed Process environment with strong compliance (FAA, AS 9100). Identify and communicate non-standard situations and EHS or product integrity concerns. Follow best practice guidelines for product and raw material handling in a high vacuum coating environment. Complete periodic TPM activities and checklists for assigned processes and equipment. Review own work for completeness and quality compliance, including interpreting electronic data logs, manually measuring critical process outputs, visually inspecting surface imperfections, and confirming gauge values. Operate support equipment such as abrasive blasting systems, parts washers, high temperature ovens, material handling equipment, surface enhancement equipment, and robotic waterjet blasting system. Support Coater Operators with part loading/unloading, fixture assembly/disassembly, chamber loading/unloading, and maintaining metal coating fixtures. Support the process team with standard rebuild and material loading tasks (Turn Arounds). Maintain punctual and accurate time keeping in accordance with site Direct Labor recording standards. Cross‑train in other coating process areas as needed, completing required training before assignments. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least 2 years of experience in a production manufacturing environment. Additional education, training, certifications or licenses that may supersede other requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence digitally or by hand. Communicate effectively with supervisor, engineers, and co‑workers. Perform basic mathematical functions with decimals, fractions or percentages, and convert between scientific, decimal and metric notation. Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and energy is a plus. Apply common sense to follow written, oral or diagram instructions. Handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mechanically inclined and able to work independently with little direct supervision. Team player when needed. Open to changes in work scope or procedures for CI and productivity initiatives. May require forklift operation (training provided). Physical Demands Climb stairs multiple times during a shift. Manual dexterity to build or assemble small components with hand or pneumatic tools. Perform repetitive motions such as turning a wrench or cutting wire. Lift up to 35 lbs. from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or carry on shop floor. Wear SAR while performing certain tasks. Meet vision criteria including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception and color adjustment. Work Environment Exposed to extreme heat, sharp objects, moving mechanical parts, and high noise. Use of PPE and machine guarding essential. Potential hazards: respiratory and skin irritants, asphyxiation, fall hazards, electrical hazards. Controlled temperature and humidity but may work in isolated wet or humid areas. EB‑PVD Coater source of ionizing radiation; appropriate shielding and monitoring required. Standard shop floor PPE: eye protection, steel‑toed shoes; additional PPE per EHS.
