Physical Therapist

Job Summary: The Staff Therapist is responsible for providing physical therapy services to patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Director. The role focuses on improving patients' functional abilities through assessment, treatment planning, administration of therapeutic interventions, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. The therapist also ensures continuity of care through discharge planning and patient education. Responsibilities: Assess and interpret evaluations and test results to determine appropriate physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription. Administer manual exercises and instruct patients in nonmanual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily living activities. Use assistive and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses to aid patient mobility and function. Provide physical therapy treatments including massage, traction, physical agents, hydrotherapy, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound. Supervise treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants. Evaluate patient progress and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices, recommending adjustments as necessary. Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare workers and contributing to patient care conferences. Design and instruct patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and recommend assistive equipment and follow-up care. Document patient care services accurately in patient and department records. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with infection-control policies and safety procedures. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of therapy equipment and coordinate repairs. Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education, professional networking, and participation in professional societies. Provide training and development to physical therapy staff through in-service programs. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and legal professional requirements and advise management accordingly. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Required Skills & Certifications: Physical Therapy License issued by the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Knowledge of physical and mental dysfunction diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation principles and methods. Strong understanding of human behavior, motivation, and psychological research methods. Proficiency in customer service principles and quality standards evaluation. Excellent communication skills including English language proficiency in spelling, grammar, and composition. Knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching methods, and training effect measurement. Preferred Skills & Certifications: Experience in educational workshops and professional societies participation. Previous experience in conducting in-service training programs. Special Considerations: Adherence to infection control policies and protocols is mandatory. Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital safety and operational procedures.
