Position Overview The Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking temporary lecturers to teach courses in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Tibetan, and general East Asian cultures (literature, thought, religion, cultural history, etc.). Position title: Lecturer Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. The current salary scale for this position ranges from $70,977 to $75,301, commensurate with teaching experience. See the salary scale document: Percent time: 11% to 100%. Lectureships are non‑tenured and typically part‑time, with the exact commitment depending on the number of courses taught. Anticipated start: January 1, 2026 (Spring 2026) or Summer 2026 (date dependent on summer session), July 1, 2026. Responsibilities Teach courses in East Asian languages and cultures. Hold office hours. Assign grades. Prepare course materials and maintain the course website. Compile teaching materials and interact with students via email, bCourses, and Zoom. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at the time of application): Advanced degree or enrollment in an advanced degree program. Additional qualifications (required at the time of start): Advanced degree. Preferred qualifications: MA degree (or equivalent) in language, literature, cultures, or related fields; Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching East Asian culture, preferably in a college or university setting.
