Title: Accountant II 

Position Status – Full-time, exempt

Reports To: Accounting Manager

Target hiring pay range for Accountant II: $51,256 - $64,070

The listed pay information includes the minimum rate of pay to the mid-point rate of pay for the posted position The actual compensation for this position may vary based upon, but not limited to, licenses or certifications, education or equivalent work experience, market data, qualifications, relevant experience, prior work and performance history, geographic location, and business sector.

The Accountant II independently manages complex accounting functions and reconciliations, exercises professional judgment, and plays a key role in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and audit coordination. This role serves as a subject-matter contributor within the Accounting Department.

2. Perform complex reconciliations and analysis of general ledger accounts, settlement activity, and financial systems.
3. Prepare and review journal entries, schedules, and supporting documentation for month-end and year-end close.
4. Participate in preparation of financial statements, Call Reports, and regulatory filings.
5. Serve as a key contact for internal and external auditors, preparing audit schedules and responding to inquiries.
6. Research, analyze, and resolve accounting issues with minimal supervision.
7. Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal policies.
8. Assist with process improvement initiatives and documentation of accounting procedures.
9. Provide guidance and informal coaching to Accounting Clerks and Accountant I staff.
10. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
11. Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory changes.
12. Utilize advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, complex formulas, lookups, data validation, and reconciliations) to analyze, validate, and report on debits and credits within general ledger accounts.
13. Independently review GL activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness; identify trends, anomalies, and reconciling items.
14. Prepare clear and concise Excel-based schedules and reports summarizing GL activity for management review, audits, and regulatory support.
15. Use analytical tools to support month-end and year-end close processes and improve efficiency and accuracy of reconciliations.
16. Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
17. Demonstrate effective use of written and oral communication as well as builds and maintains positive working relationships with all stakeholders, vendors, leaders, etc. 
18. Participate in self-learning activities to constantly improve skills and abilities to perform the job.
19. Demonstrate attention to details.
20. Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
21. Comply with all aspects of BSA/AML and OFAC regulations as they relate to this position.
22. Often required to work under pressure and to respond positively when tight deadlines may develop. 
23. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This role has no direct reports. It may provide day‑to‑day coordination of work through effective stakeholder management and collaborative engagement with internal and external partners.

REQUIRED Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or 2 additional years specific work experience in lieu of degree

• 4 to 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience

• Strong analytical, reconciliation, and reporting skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems

PREFFERED Education and/or Experience:

• Credit union or financial institution accounting experience
• Symitar experience
• Relative certifications or demonstrated progress towards relative 

Physical Job Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines such as calculator, computer, printer, facsimile, telephone, copier, etc. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop as needed. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 5 to 20 pounds.

NOTE: We are looking to hire an Accountant II, however, should we not identify the level of experience required for an Accountant II level, we will consider hiring at the Accountant I level.
