Practice Setting:

OB hospitalist service with labor and delivery, obstetric triage, cesarean operating rooms, and delivery rooms

Patient Mix:

Approximately 60% low-risk and 40% high-risk obstetrics; approximately 18% cesarean deliveries

Credentialing:

Approximately 3 months

OB Hospitalist Physician Requirements

Board certified or board eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology

At least 1 year of recent OB hospitalist or inpatient obstetric experience

Active Ohio physician license; qualified physicians who require Ohio licensure may be considered

Current Basic Life Support certification

Required fetal monitoring certification through the National Certification Corporation

Demonstrated competency in fetal heart rate interpretation, NST/CST/FSE monitoring, and obstetric ultrasound evaluation

Ability to provide care for both routine and high-risk pregnancies

OB Hospitalist Physician Responsibilities

Evaluate and manage patients in labor and delivery, obstetric triage, and the inpatient obstetric setting

Provide care for low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, including patients with hypertensive disorders, diabetes, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, and renal disease

Perform and interpret fetal heart rate monitoring, NSTs, CSTs, and fetal scalp electrode assessments

Perform and interpret Level I or screening obstetric ultrasounds, including viability assessments

Manage routine vaginal deliveries, low-forceps deliveries, and clinical decision-making for cesarean delivery

Manage complicated deliveries, including cesarean delivery, breech presentation, multiple births, and placental abruption

Provide care for patients undergoing VBAC and repair third- and fourth-degree lacerations

Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, advanced practice providers, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, and OB technicians

Support approximately four inductions and one to two cesarean deliveries per day across the practice, as volume requires
