The Opportunity

\n

\n

We are seeking a hands-on utility coordination professional who knows how to work directly with utility providers, clients, engineers, and construction teams to keep projects moving.

\n

\n

The primary focus is ensuring electric, natural gas, and telecommunications services are available when construction projects need them. You will confirm utility capacity, establish realistic service timelines, manage outstanding requirements, and follow through with providers to keep approvals, equipment, installations, and activation on schedule.

\n

\n

This role requires demonstrated experience navigating utility company processes and resolving the issues that can delay project delivery. The successful candidate can explain what is outstanding, who owns the next action, when it will be completed, and how it affects the overall project.

\n

\n

This is a director-level position with direct responsibility for coordination across multiple Arizona projects. Initially, there are no direct reports.

What You’ll Do

\n

\n

Manage Utility Providers and Project Timelines

\n

\n
• Work directly with APS, SRP, Southwest Gas, and telecommunications and fiber providers to move service requests from initial planning through activation.
\n
• Confirm service availability, capacity, infrastructure requirements, provider queue position, equipment lead times, and anticipated installation dates early in project development.
\n
• Establish clear next steps with utility representatives and follow up consistently on approvals, engineering reviews, equipment orders, installations, and meter sets.
\n
• Secure and document provider commitments, track progress, and escalate issues when delivery dates are at risk.
\n
• Coordinate temporary power, permanent energization, gas service, and telecom activation to support construction and completion milestones.
\n
• Maintain current knowledge of utility provider procedures, tariffs, service territories, and capacity constraints.
\n

Keep Clients and Construction Teams Aligned

\n

\n
• Serve as the main utility coordination contact for owners, developers, project managers, superintendents, and design consultants.
\n
• Explain utility timelines and constraints clearly so clients and project teams understand their effect on construction schedules.
\n
• Incorporate utility milestones into master project schedules and identify dependencies before they delay fieldwork or completion.
\n
• Lead coordination discussions, document action items, and follow outstanding issues through resolution.
\n
• Provide regular updates on service readiness, unresolved requirements, schedule risks, and corrective actions.
\n

Resolve Requirements and Infrastructure Conflicts

\n

\n
• Manage applications, capacity requests, easements, service agreements, transformer and pad requirements, gas meter orders, and telecom conduit and vault arrangements.
\n
• Work with civil, electrical, and MEP designers on service sizing, connection points, conduit routing, and joint-trench coordination.
\n
• Coordinate relocation, removal, or abandonment of existing overhead and underground utilities that interfere with construction.
\n
• Partner with preconstruction and design teams to confirm utility feasibility before entitlement and permit submissions.
\n
• Maintain a portfolio-wide utility tracker and practical checklists that support consistent coordination across projects.
\n
• Report progress and emerging risks to regional leadership and document lessons learned.
\n

Required Qualifications

\n

\n
• Five or more years of Arizona experience in utility coordination, land development, civil engineering, or construction project management, including direct responsibility for utility service delivery.
\n
• Direct working experience with APS and/or SRP.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to manage utility provider relationships, track service commitments, resolve delays, and coordinate activation dates with construction schedules.
\n
• Working knowledge of utility applications, easements, capacity assessments, equipment procurement, infrastructure relocation, and energization requirements.
\n
• Experience coordinating multiple projects and communicating directly with clients, utility representatives, engineers, and construction personnel.
\n
• Strong organization, documentation, follow-through, and familiarity with construction project management software.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n

\n
• Established contacts within APS or SRP planning, engineering, or project management teams.
\n
• Experience working with Southwest Gas and Arizona telecommunications or fiber providers.
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

Utility requirements are identified early, providers and project teams have clear responsibilities, and service dates remain aligned with construction milestones. Clients receive accurate updates, outstanding issues move toward resolution, and projects reach completion with the required utilities ready for use.
