Quality Inspector Aircraft APU Systems

The Quality Inspector performs detailed examinations and quality control inspections on aircraft auxiliary power unit (APU) systems and components at multiple stages of the maintenance and repair process. This role ensures strict compliance with FAA, EASA, and CAAC quality and reliability standards, covering both incoming materials and in-process assemblies. You will use a variety of precision measurement tools, test equipment, and computer-based quality systems to verify that all work meets regulatory and internal requirements, and you will document inspection results clearly and accurately.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct quality inspections on aircraft APU systems and components throughout the maintenance, repair, and overhaul process to ensure compliance with FAA, EASA, and CAAC standards.
• Perform receiving inspections on all new components and materials entering the MRO Repair Station, verifying conformity with regulatory and internal specifications.
• Carry out visual inspections of soldered connections to confirm workmanship and adherence to technical requirements.
• Perform mechanical inspections of electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies and subassemblies to ensure proper build, fit, and function.
• Prepare, complete, and maintain all required documentation to report acceptance or rejection of inspected and tested items in accordance with quality procedures.
• Use SAP-based ERP systems and the E-Pulse quality management system to record inspection results, track quality data, and maintain accurate records.
• Utilize precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, various gauges (height, thread, depth, pin), rulers, optical comparators, surface plates with related accessories (V-blocks, angles, parallels, squares, clamps), weights and scales, microscopes, special inspection tools and fixtures, coordinate measuring machines, and profilometers.
• Operate test equipment including curve tracers, video bridges, and multimeters to verify electrical performance and characteristics of components and assemblies.
• Interpret and follow technical work instructions, engineering drawings, and blueprints to perform inspections correctly and consistently.
• Apply established quality control and quality assurance practices to identify nonconformances and ensure corrective actions are properly documented.
• Handle and move components and equipment safely, including lifting 25 to 50 pounds multiple times per day as required by inspection tasks.
• Follow all FAA Repair Station procedures, documentation requirements, and regulatory guidelines while working in the dedicated APU repair and overhaul area.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to communicate inspection findings and support continuous improvement of quality processes.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety and quality standards within the production and repair station environment.

Essential Skills:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality inspection within a maintenance, repair, or manufacturing environment, preferably in aerospace or aviation.
• At least 1 year of experience using SAP-based ERP systems and quality management systems (QMS).
• Proven experience performing quality inspections in manufacturing or maintenance settings.
• Ability to read and interpret technical work instructions, engineering drawings, and blueprints accurately
• Hands-on experience with precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, height/thread/depth/pin gauges, rulers, optical comparators, surface plates and related accessories (V-blocks, angles, parallels, squares, clamps), weights and scales, microscopes, coordinate measuring machines, profilometers, and special inspection fixtures.
• Practical experience using test equipment such as curve tracers, video bridges, and multimeters.
• Capability to perform detailed visual inspections of soldered connections and mechanical inspections of electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds several times per day as part of regular job duties.
• Proof of education with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
• Eligibility and proper identification to meet ITAR requirements.
• Competence in documenting inspection results clearly and completely within ERP and QMS platforms.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in an FAA-certified Repair Station environment is preferred.
• Experience in aerospace power supplies, aircraft APU systems, or related aviation components is advantageous.
• Familiarity with E-Pulse or similar quality management systems is beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured procedures and regulatory guidelines.
• Effective communication skills to convey inspection findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Commitment to maintaining a high level of documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment:

The role is based in production and repair station areas within a high-tech aerospace manufacturing facility. The FAA Repair Station is a dedicated area on the production floor where aircraft APUs are received, repaired, overhauled, tested, and certified for return to service, and it operates under a high level of documentation and strict adherence to FAA regulations and procedures. You will work with advanced measurement tools, electronic test equipment, and computer-based ERP and quality management systems in a structured, process-driven environment. The position is on a day shift, typically a 4-day schedule from 06:00 to 16:30, with some flexibility to adjust hours (for example, 05:0015:30 or 07:0017:30) once training is complete. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukie, OR.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
