Program Manager, Infectious Diseases [Remote]

This role plays a critical part in strengthening national and global public health laboratory systems focused on respiratory and vaccine-preventable diseases. You will lead and coordinate high-impact programs that assess laboratory capacity, improve diagnostic and surveillance capabilities, and support evidence-based policy development. The position involves close collaboration with federal partners, scientific committees, and public health laboratories across the United States and internationally. You will contribute to advancing laboratory science by translating data and research into actionable guidance, training, and policy recommendations. Accountabilities:

• Lead and manage key components of infectious disease programs focused on respiratory viruses and vaccine-preventable diseases across public health laboratory systems.
• Assess laboratory capacity and performance, analyze survey data, and produce reports to guide improvements in diagnostic and surveillance capabilities.
• Develop and support policy guidance, model practices, and scientific documentation related to infectious disease laboratory operations.
• Manage partnerships with federal agencies, including CDC collaborators, member laboratories, and external stakeholders to coordinate program activities.
• Oversee contractors and consultants, including project scope definition, deliverable tracking, contract management, and performance evaluation.
• Support budget development, funding proposals, and reporting in collaboration with senior leadership.
• Represent the organization in scientific meetings, advisory committees, conferences, and external working groups.
• Lead training initiatives, workshops, and knowledge-sharing efforts to enhance laboratory capabilities across member organizations.
• Monitor policy and regulatory changes affecting infectious disease testing and ensure timely communication to stakeholders.
• Supervise a Senior Specialist and contribute to cross-functional infectious disease program initiatives.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in public health, infectious diseases, laboratory science, or related program management roles; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
• Strong understanding of respiratory diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases, and laboratory diagnostic and surveillance methods.
• Experience working with public health agencies, federal partners, member-based organizations, or laboratory systems preferred.
• Knowledge of public health policy, regulatory frameworks, and infectious disease laboratory practices.
• Strong program management skills, including coordination of multi-stakeholder initiatives and contractor oversight.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing scientific reports, guidance documents, or policy materials.
• Ability to analyze data, interpret survey results, and translate findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Proven ability to collaborate with diverse scientific, technical, and governmental stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in public health, microbiology, laboratory science, or related field.
