Position: Maintenance Mechanic Location: West Chicago, IL Job Id: 806 # of Openings: 1 Job Summary The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and mechanical and/or electrical repairs and adjustments of production and packaging equipment. The adjustments and repairs are performed on cup machines, inspectors, baggers, pre-expansion machines and conveyors, along with repairing molds and performing change-over of molds. Core Job Responsibilities Diagnoses problems by inspecting and disassembling equipment to determine extent of repairs necessary. Performs mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs to the cup machines, inspectors, bagging machines, pre-expansion machines and conveyors. Uses drawings, diagrams, and operational manuals, manufacturing specifications, etc., when diagnosing problems and making repairs. Performs equipment evaluations at the start of shift to ensure production flow is consistent. Repairs and rebuilds parts such as lift, bagger, pre-expansion and inspector cylinders along with pneumatic valves, steam and air regulators. Makes up and replaces lengths of steam hoses, air and water lines including pipe threading. Prepares and repairs cup molds while working in the mold cage. Performs mold change-over on cup machines. Provides assistance to other Maintenance Mechanics while working on production machines and associated equipment. Communicates any failure to meet established quality standards to leadership to ensure required training and action. Notifies the Maintenance Manager, Lead, and team members about adjustments or repairs outside of scope or ability to repair. Performs work in a safe manner, including lock-out/tag-out of equipment before repairs. Communicates with supervisors and co-workers on the status of equipment. Maintains housekeeping standards by keeping a clean and safe work area at all times. Attends meetings and training sessions as required and participates in training of new employees. Performs additional assignments and/or special projects with physical activity beyond those required functions of the job. Adheres to GMP, food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; reports non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately. Follows WinCup OPERA Values, safety initiatives, and other plant standards. Performs other duties as assigned and collaborates with plant, safety, and leadership teams. Completes mandated new manufacturing training on equipment to maximize output efficiencies and supports all current and new product introductions. Education and Qualifications High school graduate or GED equivalent. At least two years’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Mechanical aptitude and sound judgement. Mathematical knowledge. Basic PC skills including Excel and use of web-based applications to print labels (FedEx, UPS). Ability to speak, read and write English to complete job-specific paperwork. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; good planning and organizing skills. Ability to work mandatory overtime, early mornings, late evenings and weekends when required during busy season, inventory, and for vacation coverage. Working Conditions Indoor manufacturing environment; may be not air-conditioned. Exposure to extreme heat. Wear PPE including hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards. Shift options may include 8-hour or 12-hour shifts starting around 6:50 a.m. or 6:50 p.m. Required to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as needed; on-call to ensure equipment is functional. Physical Demands Work 8 or 12-hour shifts standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping and lifting up to 40 pounds.
