Job Summary and Qualifications The Orthopedic and Spine nurse works closely with the patient, their family and the orthopedic team to provide clear education, a smooth recovery, and minimal complications. Responsibilities include encouraging mobility, educating on joint and bone health and implementing pain and complication reduction strategies. Unit: 16 Bed, 1:5 Nurse‑to‑Patient ratio. Patient population includes Orthopedic, Neuro, Spine patients. Joint Commission Certified for Total Hip and Knee. Opportunity for Orthopedics certification after 2 years and attending surgeries. Responsibilities Coordinate and provide patient care under the general direction of the Director/Manager or Nurse Manager Provide nursing care in accordance with hospital policies, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice and unit structure standards Maintain professional standards of care, documentation, and communication with interdisciplinary team Educate patients and families on recovery processes and joint health maintenance Assess patient conditions, administer medications, and implement care plans to minimize complications and pain Document care and progress accurately in medical records Collaborate with physicians and other nurses to plan and execute patient treatments Participate in unit meetings and quality improvement initiatives Qualifications A.D.N. or BSN degree preferred Current MO RN license upon hire or a current multistate RN license (MO license required within 90 days) BLS certification required upon hire and ongoing ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire NIH Stroke Scale certification required within 90 days and annually thereafter Minimum of 8 hours of cerebrovascular‑related continuing nursing education per fiscal year Ability to work 1:5 ratio and perform on a 16‑bed Orthopedic/Neuro team Lee's Summit Medical Center Overview Lee's Summit Medical Center is an 80+ bed full‑service hospital serving Lee’s Summit and surrounding areas.
