Job Title School of Medicine - Part‑Time Clinical Faculty - Clerkship Director, Neurology Job Summary The Clerkship Director for Neurology provides academic leadership, oversight, and continuous quality improvement for the required Phase 2 clerkship in Neurology within the BYU School of Medicine (BYU MED). This individual ensures the delivery of a Christ‑centered, evidence‑based clinical learning experience that meets LCME standards, upholds institutional values, and prepares students for compassionate, competent, and spiritually grounded medical practice. Phases of the Role Phase 1: Focus on developing clerkship curriculum as a member of the Phase 2 working group (~10% effort, contracted/stipend basis). Phase 2: Focus on recruitment, faculty development, and preparation of resources for the clerkship (~20% effort, compensated at part‑time rate). Phase 3: Focus on running the clerkship (~40% effort, compensated at part‑time rate). Duties and Expectations Leadership & Administration Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Neurology clerkship across all clinical sites. Maintain compliance with LCME standards related to clerkship design, supervision, assessment, and student experience. Lead annual clerkship review processes and implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives. Coordinate with the Associate Dean of Curriculum (ADC), Phase 2 Director, and curriculum committees. Curriculum Design & Oversight Under the direction of the Curriculum Committee, develop, review, and update clerkship goals, learning objectives, instructional activities, syllabi, and required clinical experiences. Ensure alignment with BYU MED competencies, Medical Education Program Objectives (MEPOs), and mission‑centered outcomes. Provide clear expectations for students and preceptors. Assist in the creation of student evaluations for the clerkship. Student Assessment & Evaluation Oversee assessment tools including direct observation, narrative evaluations, workplace‑based assessments, OSCEs, and exams. Ensure fairness, transparency, and reliability in grading. Provide timely feedback and identify students in difficulty and refer them to the Office of Student Progress. Participate in remediation efforts and decisions. Faculty & Preceptor Development Orient and support preceptors across clerkship sites. Coordinate ongoing faculty development with the BYU MED Director of Faculty Development and other school leaders focused on teaching, assessment, and Christlike mentorship. Work with the specialty Associate Chair to recruit, train, and evaluate faculty/preceptors involved in the clerkship teaching. Site Coordination & Clinical Partnerships Maintain regular communication with site directors and partners. Oversee equitable distribution of patient encounters and procedures. Ensure all sites meet BYU MED expectations for learning environment and student safety. Assist with preceptor and site recruitment and retention. Learning Environment & Student Experience Promote belonging, clinical excellence, spiritual growth, and professionalism. Monitor workloads, duty hours, and mistreatment concerns. Serve as a mentor and primary faculty contact during the specialty rotation. Scholarly & Institutional Contributions Participate in BYU MED committees and mission initiatives. Qualifications Required Degree: MD or DO degree and board certification in Neurology, completed by the start date. Required Qualifications: Eligibility for Utah medical licensure. Active clinical practice with a BYU MED clinical affiliate within 50 miles of BYU campus. Commitment to education and mentorship. Ability to support BYU and Church standards. Preferred Qualifications: Teaching or clerkship leadership experience. Experience in curriculum development or faculty development. Experience in distributed clinical education. Educational scholarship or QI experience.
