Wind Technician Level 1 Job DescriptionBuild an exciting, rewarding career in wind power — work locally, enjoy a supportive team environment, gain exclusive training, grow your skills, receive recognition for your contributions, and benefit from competitive pay and benefits.The Tech One Program (TOP) is a structured career development program for entry-level wind technicians, created through a partnership between industry leaders Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas.TOP Wind Service Technicians receive exclusive safety and technical training accredited through the Global Wind Organization (GWO). Technicians primarily work at a wind site location near home and operate as part of a service team to ensure safe and efficient wind turbine maintenance.This position reports directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician during assignments.Technicians are responsible for performing all preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator equipment safely and efficiently. This includes maintaining and repairing machinery or components used primarily in power generation applications such as turbines and generators.Note: You are not certified to perform work inside any cabinet/controller without direct supervision from a certified Electrical Technician.Additional duties may be assigned to support customer needs and to help advance Sky Climber's mission, values, and long-term vision.This is a full-time paid employment opportunity with all training provided upon hire, including:Basic Safety Training (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection)Tower Safety Training (e.g., high-angle rescue or wind tower rescue)Technical Training (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems)QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Sky Climber does not provide sponsorships)- Must live within 1-hour commuting distance to job site unless actively relocating to the area- High School Diploma or GED- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening- Ability to read, write, and understand English- Successful completion of a climb preview prior to hirePreferred Qualifications & Experience- Associate's degree in a technical mechanical field, wind energy discipline, or equivalent technical experience- Mechanical or electrical background- Ability to read and interpret basic diagrams and wiring schematicsPhysical Requirements- Ability to climb a 300+ ft. wind tower multiple times per day and work comfortably at height- Ability to walk across the hub and, in an emergency, rappel off- Comfortable working in confined spaces- Frequent climbing, walking, standing, and bending- Ability and willingness to repeatedly handle up to 50 lbs- Due to fall protection design parameters, the combined weight of the employee, required PPE, and gear must not exceed 300 lbs (PPE and gear may weigh up to 40 lbs)ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Follow all assigned Environmental, Health and Safety proceduresPerform basic mechanical installations, maintenances, operations, and upgradesVerify that the work is completed in compliance with customer's requirementsPerform work based on established work procedures.Document all work performedReport policy or procedure violationSubmit progress reportsRepair or replace partsPossess knowledge about specific activity tools and be able to use them safelyOccasionally work independently on a component as part of an equipment maintenance project.Dismantle and assemble basic machinery, components, equipment, or toolingTravel as required (up to 25%)Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignmentsAbility and willingness to work at heights and in all weather conditionsAbility to possess and maintain a valid driver's license and clear driving record (e.g., No suspensions or restrictions, DWI, DWAI, OWI, OUI)
