Job Title: Parts Inventory and Customer Service Specialist
Job Description
This role focuses on accurately controlling and managing parts inventory in a busy trailer body mechanical shop, while providing responsive support to mechanics, walk-in customers, and drivers. You will verify and match parts to vehicle information, maintain organized stock levels, and ensure that the right components are available when needed to keep operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Verify parts numbers to ensure accurate parts control and prevent errors in ordering and stocking.
- Match vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and parts to catalogs to identify correct components and suitable replacement options.
- Read and interpret basic technical drawings to confirm part specifications and compatibility.
- Manually stock inventory, including receiving, organizing, labeling, and shelving parts in the stock area.
- Perform regular cycle counts of available parts to maintain accurate inventory records and identify discrepancies.
- Reorder available parts in stock based on inventory levels, usage trends, and shop needs.
- Handle walk-in customers, truck drivers, and mechanics’ parts requests in a professional and service-oriented manner.
- Identify correct parts and available replacement options by using catalogs, technical information, and product knowledge.
- Collaborate closely with mechanics and shop staff to ensure timely availability of required parts for ongoing work.
- Operate a forklift approximately 10% of the time to move, load, and organize materials and parts safely.
- Lift, bend, and push materials throughout the stock area to support stocking, picking, and shipping activities.
- Use computer systems to look up parts, manage inventory records, process orders, and update stock information.
- Communicate clearly with customers and internal team members to answer questions, provide updates, and resolve issues.
- Assist with shipping and related logistics tasks as needed to ensure parts are delivered or staged on time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts storage and work area in compliance with shop standards.
Essential Skills
- Proven parts experience in an inventory or parts clerk environment.
- Hands-on experience with inventory control, including cycle counting and stock management.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how parts fit and function in automotive or trailer systems.
- Attention to detail when verifying part numbers, matching VINs, and reviewing technical information.
- Ability to read and understand basic technical drawings and diagrams.
- Experience working directly with customers, mechanics, and other internal stakeholders in a service-oriented role.
- Forklift experience and ability to safely operate a forklift approximately 10% of the time.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, push, and move materials throughout the stock area.
- Basic computer skills for inventory systems, parts lookup, and order processing.
- Strong communication skills and comfort speaking with customers and internal staff.
- Experience in automotive or parts clerk roles, with familiarity in parts stocking, picking, and shipping.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Automotive parts experience, particularly in environments supporting trucks, trailers, or similar equipment.
- Trailer or trailer body experience, including familiarity with flatbeds, tractor trailers, and related components.
- Experience in parts inventory, stocking, and shipping operations within a mechanical or service shop.
- Customer service orientation, with a focus on building positive relationships and providing helpful support.
- Ability to adapt to a growing operation and take on new responsibilities as the business expands.

Work Environment
This role is based in a trailer body mechanical shop that services flatbeds, tractor trailers, and semi trucks, including installing AC units into semi trucks. The parts department operates as a smaller, close-knit team within a rapidly expanding organization that is investing in several additional business units. You will work on a day shift schedule, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to adjust to a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, Monday through Friday. The environment is hands-on and mechanically focused, involving regular movement through the stock area, lifting and handling parts, and occasional forklift operation. You will use computer systems for inventory control and parts lookup while working closely with mechanics, drivers, and customers in a shop setting that values teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
