Network and Systems Administrator

Your Job

Toledo Containerboard is seeking a Network and Systems Administrator to join our team in Toledo, Oregon, located approximately 45 miles west of Corvallis and just 5 miles east of Newport and the Pacific Ocean.

In this hands-on role, you will serve as the site's primary IT/OT network and infrastructure leader, bringing deep operational technology (OT) infrastructure expertise to a complex manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for designing, securing, and optimizing networks and systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient mill operations. Working closely with Process Control, Engineering, Operations, Cybersecurity, and Enterprise IT teams, you will help drive manufacturing technology initiatives and support critical business operations.

Our Team

You will join the Toledo site IT/OT team, which supports manufacturing operations, process control systems, and enterprise technology services. The team partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Enterprise IT to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing infrastructure that enables the mill's success.

What You Will Do

• Own the availability, performance, and security of the site IT/OT network, ensuring production systems meet uptime and latency needs.
• Operate, and maintain LAN/WLAN, switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, and wireless controllers in alignment with regional architecture standards to support both IT and OT environments.
• Implement and enforce cybersecurity controls for plant assets in partnership with the cybersecurity team, including network segmentation, endpoint protection, patching, access controls, and Purdue model alignment applying GP's Secure Network Model for Manufacturing.
• Support Windows Server and some Linux server platforms, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, virtualization (VMware), and on-site storage/SAN resources that serve production and business workloads.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents across IT and OT (network connectivity, PLC/DCS communication, server issues), perform root-cause analysis, and drive permanent fixes.
• Collaborate with process control, engineering, and regional teams (OT Delivery, Enterprise Delivery, Architecture, Cybersecurity) to deliver reliable automation networks and enable Industry 4.0 initiatives (IIoT, edge computing).
• Perform camera/video system administration and lifecycle activities (server infrastructure, install coordination, troubleshooting).
• Monitor KPIs and system telemetry to detect anomalies and proactively reduce downtime; document incidents and share lessons learned.
• Coordinate and facilitate vendor and third - party contractors responsible for site infrastructure delivery; contribute to the site technical roadmap and projects.
• Provide coaching and knowledge transfer to onsite and cross-site teams to improve communication, alignment, and operational consistency, supporting continuous improvement.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in network administration, IT infrastructure, or IT/OT support in industrial or enterprise environments.
• Practical experience with Cisco networking (switches/routers), firewall administration, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and wireless controller environments.
• Experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware virtualization, and storage technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot network and OT connectivity issues (PLC/DCS/SCADA communications) and to work with process control teams.
• Willingness to participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule, work onsite in a manufacturing environment (lift ~35 lbs., climb stairs, follow PPE/safety rules), and travel typically 5-10% annually, with opportunities for additional cross-site travel if aptitude is demonstrated
• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment, with a willingness to learn operational processes and close any training gaps.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Professional certifications such as CCNA, Network+, Security+, or VMware VCP-DCV.
• Experience with industrial communications and tools (Kepware, RSLinx, OPC, OSI PI).
• Familiarity with Honeywell/Experion, PAS Integrity, TDC3000, FactoryTalk, or other DCS/SCADA platforms.
• Hands-on experience with video management systems (Genetec, Milestone, Axis) and large camera fleets.
• Exposure to IIoT, edge computing architectures, AGVs, computer vision, or asset health technologies.
• Skills with analytics and reporting tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau) to translate operational data into improvements.
